What grit to start...

Am getting ready to start sanding to the bare metal the car has the original paint. What grit should I start with using an electric random orbital sander?

If the vehicle has only one paint job (factory) 100/120 followed by 150/180 grit will be fine. If you are using an 8" wheel sander the 100 grit is fine, the 150/180 grit is best left to a dual action sander. Keep the heat down (low rpm's) and take the paint off very gradually. Keep the sander(s) fairly flat to the surface, 5-10 degrees as an example for the 8" disc sander, flatter for the D/A...
