I have Hooker headers, but I can't get the spark plug socket to fit in the #7 cylinder. I've been beating on the thing without much luck. The sad part is there is already a factory dimple there, just isn't deep enough and extra hard to create a bigger dimple when a crease is already there.
I know TTI headers are supposed to fit nice, but I'd rather not spend $1000.00.
Any ideas please?

I'm gong to try beating the dimple in these Hookers again tomorrow, but then I'm done.

Thanks!

Jack Davis when he was top guy at Hooker told me you could dimple the
header 1/3 of the way and not lose anything!

My TTI's fit great. But I understand your desire to conserve cash. You need to use heat to get the dimple bigger. If you don't have Oxy/Acc torches, get a MAP propane torch at the hardware store. Then heat the dimple up, use a big piece of round steel rod & long nose vice grips to squeeze a bigger dent.

You don't necessarily need to get a socket on it. Sometimes a boxed end wrench will fit better and will not require the room of a socket.

^^^ Yup, sometimes a box-end wrench - especially a 12-point - works, or a short open socket with a hex you can use a wrench on.
Over the decades, I've amassed several tools for that task.

Or just take the headers off everytime I need to change a spark plug.
I've tried squishing in a vice, the opposite side dented! (Of course). Idk? These are getting pretty beat up. I'll try once more later today.
I can't get a wrench on there either. I've tried. Doesn't help either is the furthest cylinder away.

A long pry bar makes a good dent on one side only. Usually more for clearance of the spark plug boot than the socket. Most of the plugs only come out with a box end wrench. Just my experience. Be patient and good luck or you will have some broken plugs.

I also read you can use shorty Accel 414S spark plugs as well. I guess they can run hot, but for 1 cylinder I may not be so concerned.
Also I read Summit headers work, and Hooker Super Comps after a cirtain year work... but that's what I have. I can tell you they don't work! Unless they are that old, idk? Came with the car.

Maybe something like my cut-out header bolt wrench on a 13/16" box?...........

Or shorten up a thin wall 13/16" 12 point socket just to break it loose? A short plug socket W/O the rubber insert?

You just gotta figure out what works for each car, I guess!!

I found one of my dad's wrenchs from like 1800's. I looked thin, so I tried it and it works!!

I ran Hooker Comps with Edelbrock heads on a 440, and they definitely took some 'persuading' but they fit. Driver side tube also needed clearancing at the torsion bar area. After switching to TTIs, all I can say is...save your pennies and get a pair. The difference in underhood temps is astounding and changing all 8 plugs takes me around 20 minutes with no objectionable language needed...

I use Dougs headers and plugs go in easily. On some of the plugs i have to put a wrench on the hex on top of the socket
Now on my sons pos chebby 3rd gen camaro I have to use a custom socket I made. It has part of the side cut out
I'll post a pic in a minute, got to grab a beer first. Its Friday

My Doug's are fine , no issues with plugs, need studs to mount though.

Cheap-assed Hedmans work also - as long as they've been "massaged" with a sledgehammer to clear
the starter area. :realcrazy:
