firstly i know its not mopar thats why it is in general discussion.
i ended up with this on a 3 way horse trade. the old lad who had it took it out because it made the tires chirp to easy, his words.

I'm at work and looked up a cover gasket for a 78 Malibu and you have an 8.5 in. GM rear. Gear size I don't know. Hope that helps. Bruce
