I've got a 1975 Fury Sport...previous owner says he thought it had sure grip. What codes indicate sure grip and axle ratio in these 1975 models? I've seen codes for earlier years...but cannot find confirmation for 1975.

thanks,
DB

look for code 408 on the data plate. 48 on the build sheet.at least that is the code on my 74' Satellite.

408 is not a valid code for '75 fender tag unless it's the SPD

Different plants coded differently. We need to know what plant the car came from to see if that plant coded in a manner that can help the OP.

It has a G in the vin which i believe means the st louis plant

If it's from STL, then Sure Grip will not be coded on the tag.

If it helps, my 77' has a limited slip, but the plant code is R. If the code is in the same place, I have 000 in the same place as 408 on my older Plymouth.

Disregard, that code doesn't apply to differential. sorry about that.

So I found that D91 is typically the correct code for sure grip...and that code was used in 1975. But if what 69coronetrt says is true, and St louis cars don't have the codes, then I'm not sure how else I can find out unless I'm lucky enough to run across the build sheet, or put the car on the rack and search for some kind of stamp on the rear end. Is there a visual difference in the rear end that I could see by looking underneath at the car, without putting it on a rack?

It's not that tough to figure it out. Get a floor jack, lift both wheels off the ground, put the car in neutral and spin one wheel. If the other wheel goes in the same direction, it has SG. If it goes in the opposite direction, it doesn't.

The quickest way? Just do a burn out and count the stripes. :)
