I replaced the horn relay and the horn began to work correctly the day I posted my "After 4 years everything works thread." That euphoria did not last long as the horn went off by itself in the garage the next morning. Nobody near the car for over 12 hours- at least it had the decency to not do this in the middle of the night. It seemed like the horn would go off if you could get the horn ring in just the right position. I disconnected horn and then the relay completely as the horn relay was hot even with the horn disconnected.

I took off the horn ring and found the following shown in the two pictures.

Note in the first picture that the screw hole at approximately the 8:30 position has part of the screw surround missing. Is this likely the cause of my problem? If so, is a salvage yard the only source for this part. Part has three numbers stamped on it. 58301, 1576 and 2771534.

Also unsure if this was installed correctly. The flat side was toward the bottom which put the wire connection at about the 5:00 position. There are also two raised nubs in the first picture at approximately 10:00 and 6:30 I have no clue what the function of these might be.

I have read posts about people cleaning up the horn contact surface to try to get the horn to work, but my problem is not getting it to honk, but instead getting it to stop.

Just make sure to have a good look at those switches. I'm only saying this because when I searched out a replacement for my A100 pickup, I discovered very subtle differences in the 'clocking' positions of the mounts and the tangs for locating the switch. The one I needed was of course the most difficult to find.
For $80 and shipping, you don't want to make a mistake.

$80! Sweet Jesus!

Okay, I tried this. Sprayed the thing down with WD-40 and tried to clean any grime off especially around the heads of the spring slides that look like rivets on the other end. Bent the two contacts pieces so the gap was 100% consistent all the way around. It was not coming close to touching anywhere, but the gap was narrower close to one spring slide. Reinstalled and left out the screw that looked like the screw surround was broken toward the outside edge. Works for now. We will see for how long. Those everything working intervals can be short on a 50 year old B body!

And to think I spent a week looking for my steering wheel puller and did not need to pull the steering wheel at all. It was on the last corner of the last shelf I had to clean off in order to find it.

Amazing what else I found in the process. Did I really spend $175 on new AC vacuum hoses I never installed while the unit was out since the old ones seemed to work fine? Did I really buy a M&G under hood wiring harness for electronic ignition and new style alternator, with new orange box and four prong ballast resistor and then just fix the bad wires in the old harness? Did I really buy rear wheel bearings thinking I need to pull the rear axles to replace a rear wheel stud my shop broke off, only to have someone tell me I could pound it out and pull the new one through with a lug nut and washer? Did I really buy two new oil pan gaskets (why two?) and motor mounts, since it made sense to do them at the same time and then get the oil leak to stop with some RTV on the pan bolts and a retorque.

Those late nights searching the internet can get expensive, and that does not even get started on used parts off ebay! LOL

I found some after watching for a while. I'll look tomorrow if I have an extra, I'll pm you if I have an extra.

Don't know about the other parts but you need two oil pan gaskets to replace an oil pan on a HP 440 - one under the windage tray and one on top.

Congratulations on getting 100% operability. Mine is close - need to replace the wiper fluid reservoir as it has a crack but the pump works. One dash bulb is not burning and I don't have the bulb that illuminates the HVAC panel set right. OH - I suspect the AC linkage that boosts the high fan speed to super high fan speed on Max-recirculate has fallen out of adjustment again. Other than that and a bouncing speedometer I'm good.

Thanks! It never occurred to me I might have the wrong screws. Mine was attached when I bought the car with screws that are inside of the recessed holes, but none have the plastic insert. I may just need the correct screws with the inserts. I would spend the $80 and buy the whole kit new if I knew it would fit a 67. The listing says through 66 for some reason.

Update. I found the exact same part number switch I have on ebay for $24 shipped and three NOS screws and inserts for $20 shipped. This should resolve my issues. I had no idea there were supposed to be surrounds on the mounting screws. My screws were inside the holes and screwed tight to the steering wheel. I hope my threads in the wheel aren't screwed up from incorrect screws. An old Mopar is like a box of chocolates - you never know what you are going to get. Mine had the wrong screws and also no horn relay or horn wiring whatsoever under the hood when I bought it. I hope this car appreciates being brought back to like, although at times it has seemed to be working against me like it just wanted to peacefully slip quietly into full retirement at it's final resting place.

I don't drive the car hard, and was surprised when I floored it from a dead stop a few days back and it broke the tires instantly and jumped to life to the sound of burning rubber. At one time it would have bogged down like it would die if you did not let off the gas instantly like it was saying "who me?"

It may regaining some of its youth.

Thanks to all that posted. I think I am headed down the correct path. Somebody here has always been where I am before.
