What is YOUR carburetor setup? Tuning issues here...

I got the wideband guage today. I'm going to buy a vacuum guage as well. I'm going to mount them where the ashtray door currently is. I don't smoke, so this is as good of a place as I can find. I bought ABS pipe and some pebble grain 3/16" plastic sheet. Stay tuned. I'll post pics as soon as it is done.
M79ded: That Lunati cam seems milder than what I have now. I am not nearly as knowlegeable on cams as you may be, but I wonder how that might work with 53 more inches than a stock 440. I guess I'll have to call and talk to the techs at Lunati. Thanks for the suggestion.

With that many cubes, it's actually not a big cam and milder than what you have now. but with that said I believe it would make a difference in your car.That cam will pull very strong to about 5600, but most of all come in under 2000. With your converter and the final drive ratio you have,lots of your cruising is done in the 2000-4000 range. The milder cam is going to work better in that range, build better vacuum and much smoother drivability especially When you are at highway speeds and converter is locked up you are going to smash the pedal and that thing is going to be in it's best power range and man is that going to go.
To sum it up much more efficient.

Hot Rod magazine did an article several years ago about the relationship of cams and compression ratios. The text described how long duration cams can make a high comp ratio compatible with pump gas. The belief was that the duration bleeds off cylinder pressure. I mention this because my 10.8 squeeze is borderline now with 91 octane gas. If I could get off of my ***, I'd pull the motor and swap in a set of dished pistons to lower the ratio to the high 9 range. With a point less, I could run 89 octane in a pinch while still making decent power. Maybe NEXT winter.

You have really good heads for your setup I don't think you can do any better.1st of all they are aluminum which allows you to run about a point higher and 2nd and most important they have excellent quench. Just get that setup right which is about 40 thou and you will be golden. No problems whatsorver with that comp ratio.

Google quench heads for big block mopar and read some of those articles and you will see the importance of a good quench, even KB pistons has an article on it.
 
You built a 496 Stroker, and you're worrying about fuel economy? :eusa_eh:

You might as well sell that 496 and go the modern 6.1-6.4 Hemi route....
 
I am looking to increase the efficiency of the 493 in my Charger. Please, before you chime in that..."If you want mpgs, buy a Honda...", I feel that a well tuned engine should be able to run strong, relatively clean and get decent fuel economy.
The stats: 10.8 to 1 compression, 440 block with 4.15 stroke, .030 overbore. Edelbrock RPM heads and intake. MP '509 cam installed straight up. 2"TTI headers with 2 1/2" exhaust. Barry Grant 850 VS carb jetted 85/92 with a 3.5 PV. MP Chrome ECU. Timing set to 17 degrees initial, 31 total plus vacuum advance. 727 with 2500 stall, .78 GV Overdrive 3.91 diff, 3.05 final drive in OD.
I'm curious as to the details of FBBO members engine tune. The Charger runs strong. I got 12.9 mpg on a tank of freeway driving @ 60 mph. Yeah, the cam is a dinosaur and I'm leaning toward something more modern. I'm interested in what jets, power valves and settings FBBO members use.

I ran a 950 proform on My 498 stroker AND if not whooped on, I got 12mpg(was very proud of that)....355 gears...auto...If I whooped on it...would drop considerably....498...10-1 compression-comp cam...93 octane


I don't understand how people get way less unless they need tires almost as often as gas

I get around 12-15MPG with the .590 solid, 10MPG around town. Actually got less with the XE285HL Hydraulic camshaft. Ramp rate plays a huge role as well in my opinion.
 
You're gunna see some interesting things on that air/fuel mixture meter.....I have an Innovate Motorsports Lm-2 monitoring my stroker and am just beginning to learn how to interpret the data...one thing for sure, I'll bet you're rich....I was and the plug porcelains were white as golf balls......jetted down and went faster and still learning..
