What song can bring a tear to your eye?

Beach Boys "Shutdown"

There is no way a '63 327 fuelie Vette beats a '62 413 Max Wedge Dart Super Stock.

Many good ones already mentioned for sure.
Let me throw a curve ball in here - prefaced by my stating as a general rule, I loathe
this band (and most of that 80's pop pablum in general).
That said, the chord progression in this song (yes, along with the lyrics) still hits me
in the feels - it's totally different from anything else they ever did and is still apparently
their most popular song to perform live:

Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald by Gordon Lightfoot. I grew up in the Upper Peninsula and had a close friend (Jim Pettie) who served on that ship. Lucky for him, he quit sailing about a year before it went down. He had
several friends that were still on board. When he drank a little too much he would remember them and their friendship. Pretty rough on him then, and probably now.

The original “Boy Band”. 1964 on Bandstand from the WFIL studio in Philly. Just lip syncing here, but they played all the instruments on the recording. It’s about Street Racing, and your girl giving you encouragement. :)

My guitar weeps and old darling from George Harrison

A sad story well told by a master storyteller!

I was going to post this. Gets me every time.

Does anyone know where the love of God goes, when the waves turn minutes to hours?

The church bell chimed 'til it rang twenty-nine times
For each man on the Edmund Fitzgerald

The lyrics are a poem, but they are straight forward and very powerful.

Look it up.
Back then, before the internet we didn't know so much about the songs.
Or the people that wrote them.

Sorry. Edit .
Bonus track.

Can’t remember the title of the song but it was performed by Queen. Mama just killed a man, put a gun up to his head, pulled the trigger now he’s dead. My daughter would cry like a baby when it came on the radio. Lol

Living years by Mike and the Mechanics

That'll do it !!
Definitely agree. This song came out right at the time my good friend committed suicide. Whenever it comes on, I stop and think of him. Great lyrics.

Another one is Lynyrd Skynyrd Simple Man. I plan to play this a tribute to my mom when she passes away.

Someday never comes by CCR. Follow you to Virgie by Tyler Childers. Are 2 that comes to mind.
