So yet again more tranny troubles. Installed a seperate tranny cooler and even a sheoud to help with what I thought was an overheating problem with my transmission. its a 727 under two hundred miles fresh rebuild. After instaling the new cooler went to have it fkushwd and got a call saying they dropped the pan and found a snap ring and a hunch of metal.shavings in the bottom of the pan. They filled.it back up with the old fluod so we could move it onto the trailer. Got it up on a lift after picking it up dropped the pan ans fins the snap.ring to be for the kickdown servo I believe. Which is where we thibk the metal shavings are from. My question is where do I go from here?should i jay reinstall the snap ring clean out the valve body and everything best I fan drain torque converter and refill.with fresh fluid or should I start over ans drop tranny and do ANOTHER rebuild? I'll try and post the pictures later on in the day I took thanks for any advice

If it was done 200 miles ago, have the builder repair this for you and go again, be sure and have the converter cut and cleaned as well.

I help run the office at my friends transmission shop. I can tell you we wouldn't do anything short of a complete teardown. Once you see metal shavings, there's no telling where they've gotten to. 200 miles or 20.

Here are a couple questions. How could the snap ring have fallen out of place? And what fies the kickdown band/servo affect. If the ring was out of place for a while I haven't noticed any shift issues it or any indication of problems untill the pan was dropped

I believe the kick down band applies quickly to shift it from first into second. Before this the over running clutch holds, and then free wheels after the shift. It is simply a one way clutch. The snap ring for the servo holds it in place and keeps the piston from coming all the way out. Take it back to the guy who re built it. They aren't that hard to work on, if you know what your doing. Pretty simple. You have 2 bands, 2 planetary gear sets, and a low and hi speed clutch, and 2 servos, if I remember right. Now the valve body is best left to an expert, if you have a problem there. Good luck!
