The Green Coronet

Turn it into an air compressor.

Four cylinders fire and four compress. It's been done before. Always wanted to try it.

Make a short wheelbase dune buggy. Flotation tires for snow and mud................................MO

The compressor sounds like a great idea. The buggy would be cool, maybe like a showtime buggy or something.

A buddy and I threw a few spare parts that were laying around the shop at his 72 318 Demon and ended up running a 13.50 @ 102 with a very bad combination! The short block even had 115k miles on it.....boat anchors they are not but since so many think they are, you can usually get them for cheap or even free.

2x, ended up giving away the one I had just to get it out of the shop...

You might want to find out if you can donate it to one of your local high school or community college auto shop programs. It's good for the young guys to learn about these old engines. Maybe they'll get the Mopar bug too.

Im in high school I just have a little collection going, i've already been asking around a bit a most say Whats Mopar? I've been thinking a jeep swap would be nice, when my Coronet is done.

25 years ago guys were asking me "what's a Plymouth" whenever I drove into an auto parts store etc....and then I'd get really strange looks when they heard Plymouth Belvedere lol

Give it to a young person who is interested in engines. My first "tear-apart" was a Maytag gas engine. My Dad explained how it worked as I was taking it apart. That lesson turned into a life-long experience...Thanks Dad!!!.......................MO

For all you naysayers that think they are boat anchors.

Been looking over this thread with MowPar today and having a chuckle as usual. My boat anchor pic was a bit of fun, and we both agreed the 318 is a great and reliable engine.
However, a story about his truck pictured below adds grounds for the boat anchor pic. The '78 Ram was dead stock when imported from Texas only a few years ago (it actually arrived in the same container as my A100) and ran OK at the time. However there was no real 'guts' to the engine, so it got a good tune up. Maximum speed reached with full jandal (pedal to the metal) was a whopping 60mph!! MowPar then proceeded to surgically remove all the air & smog restriction items around the engine - a full contractor's wheelbarrow full of hoses, pipes and wobbly things emerged.
New maximum speed attained was 65mph. :icon_pale:

Mowpar then decided to follow some advice from someone else (not me) and pursue a stroker kit, complete with 360 valves and porting etc., plus an ignition upgrade to include a Rev-N-Nator unit. Approx $8,000 later and a lot of headaches and the usual problems with parts fitting and mating surfaces etc - (nothing the BFH couldn't resolve), and the truck is now capable of speed in excess of the capability of the chassis.....unable to measure terminal velocity with any degree of accuracy at this time

So there you have it, a boat anchor maybe - in stock form, but yes the mild mannered 318 can be turned into a beast with a lot of cash, time and patience.
