still learning about these old B's. My 64 is a poly 318 with a pushbutton auto.
is it a 727 ???

But it won't bolt up to a big block - even though they're both 727 Torqueflites. The housings are different.

I need to get a pan gasket and filter so for now I am just fixing the stock trans. it is a poly 318 push button auto

Big Block is not an option for the near future

Just need to know what trans I have so I can order a gasket and filter

727 ???

i bet on it being a 727

Should be a 727. Not many 904s in '64 (I think that was the first year for them - or was it '65?). My poly has a 727. I mentioned the big block in case you were thinking of swapping the engine down the road.

I'll try a link that shows a diagram of the difference in shapes. Looking at your pan will tell you which one you have.

Thanks 64bel, I just want to be able to drive the car for now. I need to know what to ask for when I am at the parts store.
Trans is leaking pretty bad on the pan gasket

Thanks again for the link

It's a 727
Thanks to the link from 64Bel I printed a pic of the pan gasket and confirmed

Thanks for all the other input

You're welcome - glad you got it identified.

For the future the 904 pan was somewhat square. The pan on the 727's had a small outcrop on one corner making it not perfectly square. Ma did make BB and SB 727. The bolt patterns are different.
Small Block
