ok, what transmission fluid do i use???? 72 SSP 400 2bbl, not sure if its a 904 or 727, fender tag code says "light duty transmission"

any suggestions? I have heard that tyoe f works, but is hard on the clutches..

thanks!!!, my selector seal is leaking pretty bad, hope to fix it this week end

Type F is getting hard to find. For the last two years in my race car I've run Wall Mart Dexron with no issues.

My rebuilder runs Dexron 3 in 727s unless it's a lockup converter. He's been doing these about forty years and reached that conclusion through experience. He just finished (this morning! :icon_kidra: rebuilding Lone Star's original 727 and put in a heavy duty clutch pack, Transgo TF2 shift kit and proper torque converter. Lone Star is the '67 383 Satellite.

i'm not rebuilding, just fixing the leak and change filter while in in there. I know the torque converter will still have fluid in it, not sure what is , worried about mixing wrong fluids.... make sense??

pull the trans dipstick out and read what it says to use on there

All the older style fluids are getting harder to find and from what I read, ATF +4 will do the job more than just fine. It's synthetic and takes more heat too. Also, Walmart carries it but probably not in bulk and is cheaper than you can normally find anywhere else. When I changed the fluid in my truck, I hit two Walmarts for all they had and then got one of the sales people to order me another 10 quarts. It came in within a day.

ATF-4 and no fluid will fix a seal leak. Replace it may take sometime but lots cheaper than continually adding fluid.

I worked for a Dodge dealer for the last 24 years I was a tech and I did trans overhauls along with the other work I did. So I have some ATF+4 stocked up and its all I have used for years in my cars and my 63. Its worked good for me. My sons Dart has a 727 I built in 1996 and its still in the car working fine and its been raced some over the years like my 63 which I built that trans in 2006 in my 63 and its still working great and the fluid still looks great.
