What will it bring? 1967 Hemi GTX @ Mecum.

What are your thoughts on this car and what it will bring? 1967 Plymouth Hemi GTX for Sale at Auction - Mecum Auctions

At some point in my life, and, hopefully in the not "too" distant future, I want to experience what it's like to walk out to the garage and fire up a Hemi car. Feel the vibrations, hear the rumble, smell the fumes, and then take it for an early morning cruise. Ahh, my life would be complete. Well, other than getting a mod top, or gator grain car... ;-)

It appears to me that this type car rarely shows up on legitimate sites like this one, or even BaT. I don't even mess with FB or ebay these days. So, with that said, I have not ruled out buying at a public auction regardless of my thoughts about them.

No expert here, but a couple things jump out at me:
1. I don't see where there's a statement of it being the original engine to the car?
2. Column shift autos bug me for whatever reason.

no picture of undercarriage
looks like some refreshed exterior brightwork, recently painted motor, but skipped interior. Very auction-like move.
pitting on chrome in interior. Interior looks like things replaced only out of necessity. gauge cluster painted all black to short cut re-chroming.
skipped exhaust tips, back up lights, etc.
Maybe older partial restore.
A lot of bolt on stuff would take the quality up a notch. But sellers know that won't matter in an auction.

66-67 hemi are least expensive hemi cars. And those buyers are sensitive to the entry price. So auction sellers have to be careful of return on investment (spruce up)

$60-80K so many unseen variables. The exterior does look sharp. Maybe more.

You might wanna check Hagerty's current valuation of a 66/67 Hemi car. 4 speed or at least a console would be a better price, but they don't go cheap. I know that I wouldn't part with my '66 HP2 for less than 200K Cdn. (140US).

That said, I'm at a loss in todays internet world why anyone would waste the coin taking a car to auction...

"Not willing to part..." price and "actively selling on open market" price are too different numbers. Unmotivated vs motivated sellers. Nothing wrong with that.

I refuse to pay an auction company to sell a car for me. You pay for it to be auctioned, then they keep a minimum of 10% of the auction price, and you have the expense of getting the car to auction, detailing, and living expenses while there. Even if you get a little more than privately selling your car, you still lose. You want to give your hard work away, take it to an auction!

They have enough cars in the years to make it interesting. The column auto will be the cheapest of them.( BUT If I was interested it would not deter me at all ) _ Followed by the red with red inter 1966 Satellite

And Ive turned down $100k US for mine on a few occasions, Real money
Have had another guy go as much as $150K but deep down a part of me thinks he was fishing, But I turned him down regardless . My car is not for sale

I bought a terrific numbers matching '68 Hemi GTX on this site four years ago. Sold it to another FBBO member a year later, when a car I liked better became available. In each purchase and sale, my fellow members and myself got tremendous satisfaction out of keeping our hard earned money out of the hands of the auction company.

IMO 60K is far too low for a real car.
And at auction that aint gonna happen

They have a white Belv hemi clone that IMO will be in the 50-60k range if its decent car

To the OP.

IMO if you have a decent budget plan on spending $75k , probably more . for real car

One of the reasons they don't show up on sites like this one is that really nice, cherished examples, tend to be held by their owners until they end up in an estate sale, and the family chooses the easiest means of liquidating the asset. The only winner in that scenario is the auction company. Better scenario is car stays in the family, and never sees the market.

Looks like a nice car. As to what it will bring i have no idea but most likely not below hagerty book value.
Did not see many "bargains" (aka cars going way below hagerty estimate) when i attended the mecum auction in las vegas last year.

While i really enjoyed the auction in las vegas and have definitely seen a lot of great cars it seems like the auction in kissimmee will be even larger with even more high end cars.
At least i got a few marketing emails from mecum recently featuring some really cool cars to be auctioned in kissimmee.

I looked at and even sat in this hemi car which did not met reserve which could obviously also happen to this 67. Yeah i'm guessing not below hagerty or no sale at all. Never mind the car discussed here will be auctioned with no reserve.

A Hemi, 4-speed 1967 GTX sold from London, Ontario last fall for $120,000 CAN. It went to Pentastic Motors,where they dabble in Musclecars. Dave jacked the price up, but I see it is no longer on inventory. The car was white, with a bronze painted top, and bronze interior. It sounds kinda weird, but I thought it was quite attractive. I think Dadsbee's wife bought her Barracuda there.

Yea, $60K would have to have "issues" with docs or body that aren't shown on the mecum page.

Like it should have a IBM punch-card at least. The underbody should have the hemi ID'ing items and they should look original. The more "hits" it starts taking the price goes down.

People were faking and re-boding cars in late 80's and 90's. The "good ole days" had plenty of scandalous stuff too. That's a 40 year old resto now. So the cars may "look" original, or like they just had repaints on an original car. But really they were all gone through and things have 40 years of sitting around wear.

And this is a Mecum auction with reserves, right? So I don't see anyone letting go for under $75K cause the seller might only net $65K after fees, taxes, transportation, boarding costs.
