What winch are you using on your car trailer?

for professional use, sure, I'd go heavy duty 12k, with my home built junk car hauler for limited personal use, cheapest I could buy, think it was a 3500# harbor freight unit, but I used a cinch block to double it's pulling capacity only drawback is takes twice as long to load using one. I loaded 3 3600# Marlins, a heavier full size pickup and a Jeep with it before selling it, and yes those are wood fence boards for fenders, loaded all my vehicles and was rolling in less than 30 mins ea time.
I tried one Marlin without the cinch block, yanked right up, ideal no but sufficient. Winch rating recommended is 1-1/2 times weight of vehicle rating.

Just a few things I like to use for hauling, the chain end snatch block can be used to pull the load back off the trailer too! I also have the tire skates which you slide/ tap under the tire to make it easier to load. The chain end block can also be used to move the load side to side. I ran many rollbacks and wreckers for years so it carried over. The wheel straps are nice because your tied to the unsprung load and on many new cars it’s the safest place to strap down. I use several bridles and some have really cool frame hooks that will hook in the factory places and not fall out while winching it up. AW direct is good place to get them, there are other places too just be careful . There are straps that loop right thru the wheel, you do need a sleeve sometimes to protect them. I did add extra D rings for tie downs, rabbit ears work great too. Just a little food for thought as we get older laying under them stinks sometimes and nice 8pt tie down from up top works great!

I've heard of snatch blocks but didn't know how they worked until now.



Pretty cool. If I'd have researched this a bit more I would have bought a smaller winch and a snatch block setup to make things a bunch lighter.
Heck...I still could if Harbor Freight accepts returns on a unit that is unboxed and tested but never used.
