I've been working on my 65 belvedere for 3yrs, 2 1/2 it's been at a body shop were I've been working it on. I've done alot (80%) of the work on the car on my day/days off, the body guy has been kinda of guiding me through the process. But I've kinda got to the piont I won't the car done and the body guy so time say I'll get this done, but when I come in nothing is done. The body stuff that he does is the thing I dont know how to do, (putting on filler and spraying prime) stuff, without screwing up my car. So pretty much I'm getting burned out from working on my car and dealing with the body shop guy. I've told the bodyguy that I will pay him, but not til car gets done. So it goes on. The other, I own the bodyguy under 600.

Now Heres the other side: just resently I spoted another 65 from pretty much what it will cost to get my car done.

Right now, and for awhile anyways, it cheaper to buy one fixed up then do it yourself. But the pride you have in it is priceless.

I know by the time I finish my car, I could have bought a R/T Coronet cheaper, but we just don't buy these cars to look at do we.

If he isn't working on it now definitely don't give him any money or he will never touch it and in a year you will get mad and pick up the car not done and he will keep the money and tell you it covered storage.
Take the car somewhere else and don't feel bad its your car not his.

I agree wth S.I. Coronet, there are plenty of places you could take your car where they would be happy to finish it for you. Maybe all you need to do is threaten that you will go elseware and this guy will get on the ball for you.

The guy has stored your car for how many years in his shop. Taking up his space. Not in your garage. 2 1/2 yrs. He has been teaching you and guiding you along the way. I think your getting a deal if $600 is all you owe him for now. He is doing you a favor.

Your tired of working on your car. That happens a lot I guess.

I don't know what agreement you arranged when you started in his shop working on your own car? If you ask him to do more than originally agreed upon he is not obligated to take on more for you.

If your tired of it; sell it and buy a done car. Just don't blame the shop owner.

You can always pay him what you owe, and take your car. Don't take your car before you pay what you owe. Things can get really ugly if you do (mechanic's lien), and you will not win.

you could also ask him how much longer it will take to get the car done where you're comfortable with it.And you can make the statement"Hey,i know we've been working on the car for awhile now,how long do you think till it is done?"Just be calm about the things you sak and don't make it look like you are backing him into corner, and you should get your answers.

:confused::confused:
Thank you for some of your in-put it kind of helps.
The deal was that I would do some of the work, like strip-it and drill out the pot welds and some of the miner stuff. He is post to do all the major welding and repairs that would been seen. Well as the car sat and was moved from one side of the shop to the other and my parts where moved around the shop. Things start to come down to if I want it done I would have to do it myself. Which hey isn't no problem I'll try anything to learn something new.
But We did talk money and if I did some of the work I would get a better deal. But I wasn't post to do all the work. I mean I could devote one or two days a week on it and he had in his shop 5 days a week. The car was only post to ther a year at the most. Now it's almost 2 1/2 years later. I have payed for the materials I have used and the panels that where needed.
More or less I'm frasted and pretty much burned out and just want the car done. Probably if someone walked to up to me and offered me a good price on probably would sell it.

Have any recent pictures to post to show the condition that it's in?

Worked on my car for 4 almost 5years. Found a fellow racer that is a paint and body guy and has a spray booth at his house. Did all I could do myself and took it to him and told him, you are the expert make it right. He works a regular job and does his other stuff part time on the side. Took him 2-3mo. but it was worth it. For what good paint and clear costs, its not worth risking a crappy job. GET REFERANCES AND LOOK AT YOUR PAINT AND BODY MANS PAST WORK.

email [email protected] he's a good friend and a great body guy. Be nice and he'll give you some advice, he's a cool guy, he's built a '69 Hemi Charger, a '68 RR and a '69 Git-X 4-spd car. Currently he'll be aquiring a '70 Hemi Challenger to sell for profit. He did a 7-month turn-around on my Charger. Replaced, floor pan, trunk pan, trunk extensions, decklid and hood, primer and out the door.

You know what you have accomplished on your car. You have no idea what bag of surprises are in store for you on this other one.
As stated by one of the other members, you have received a nice deal not having to pay storage fees which can be at $200.00 per month.
Usually body shops charge you only for the time they put into the car monthly for restorations.

Man, All of U have great info on what I should do. Eddie Mopar U have said it all "You know what you have accomplished on your car. You have no idea what bag of surprises are in store for you on this other one".

I did go look at the other 65. A man did it look sweet. The guy did talk a good talk on the car. Here another one has anybody dealt with DREWS USED CARs inGrand Rapids MI and what kind work he does on his cars?
