Is ther a diffrence in the 383 hp, and a 383 block? or dose it come down to the internals? I see alot of non hp stamped blocks for 150$ and then see hp blocks for 500$ what is the real diffrence?

Besides the cam and or/heads, most HP 383's (or 4 barrel motors) have 10 to 1 pistons.

If you are talking about just the bare block, then there is no difference between the HP and non-HP block. As mentioned the higher compression, better heads, cam and of course the 4 bbl make an HP 383. The HP's also have a steel crank and HP exhaust manifolds. I have a 66 HP 383 that has a steel crank and is also drilled for a 4 speed.

The stamp that says "HP", the road runner cam (really a GREAT street cam) and the 10:1 pistons mentioned above. But don't you be thinkin for one minute that means 10:1 compression. Not with MoPar's machining tolerences. lol 9.25 would be doin good.

The only difference between the HP and non HP block is the impression made by the HP stamp. All low block 383's are good fodder for building. Well, I'll go as far as to say you won't find a bad MoPar block for buildin' (sans any core shift or other defects). I have a Winnebago special in my Belvedere or whatever that 77 block came from.

I thoght it was just the cam and only a 5 hp difference, 330 vs. 335.
