Tough to value those things anymore. Folks aren't just snatching up every one they can find and buyers are usually people who need one... and they're getting fewer and fewer. I think RC is right.
383's or the cranks aren't really rare, it'd be a score for someone who needs it,
already done & cheap, I mean really cheap... like less than $50
IMO the machining cost, probably more than the value...
you can buy a whole 383 with a steel crank & a bunch of great parts
sometimes for the cost of just a crankshaft, someone's trying to unload...
I just had a chance to get two awesome forged 440 cranks for $50 each and was going to snag them, but then I started looking around for a value and got lots of "Oh man, they're worth $200 easy!", and then I would ask if they want one for $200 and it's "Oh man, I wish I could, but...". I'm sure if I had bought them, they would still be in my garage taking up space until I could find the next biggest sucker to give me $50 for them.
Just not many folks who "just gotta have" these parts these days.
