What's with Ham's at Easter?

I hear ya Bro!!! Price for Lamb is through the roof even here in NV. Yesterday I hit the Smith's grocery and Wally World for my weekly trip and priced a boneless Leg of Lamb...full leg would have cost me a 2nd mortgage to buy one...so I hit the Raley's store and picked up a Shank Ham portion at 97 cents per lb. Got a 10 pounder for a tad over 10.00. So Ham it will be with some taters Au Gratin and some fresh Brussels Sprouts. Remember when we would smoke a Leg back there in CA??? Also when you would get a Lamb leg, have the Butcher de-bone it and then get some Beef flat meat and make our own Gyros with homemade Tzatziki Sauce??? You lika da juice??? Great times back then. As for Lamb...when I hit Wally World, I passed by the meat section and just for grins, looked at their Lamb. Pickins were small but they had Loin Lamb Chops marked down over 1/2 from 18.00 to 8.00 and some change. 3 to a pack so I grabbed 2. One is in the freezer and had the others last night. Still got some Shankers in the freezer, but having opted to do a Ham, I can feed myself for a number of days and then make some Corn, Potato, Ham Chowder with adding a smocked hock. Hope the weather will be good for you as it is still cold, windy and threatening here. Starter plants done last Fri and I have tomato, squash, and peppers starting to pop...cr8crshr/Bro!!! :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::usflag::usflag::usflag:

A new trend for us as we age is Easter brunch. It's flexible to different Church time. And wider varieties of food options for today's "I can't eat that" culture. "My Gluten. Oh my. My Gluten" (Ok, I guess "Gluten" is not a count in one's body. But seems to be today's evil no no.)
 
My wife handles all the cooking. I don't care what it is as long as it's dead and cooked.
 
Wife's cooking, bless her little heart. Serve it up!!!!! IF it move or makes any kind of noise, I will stab till it doesn't.... and then eat it.
 
Wife dictates the menu. It's always been ham, but this year she noticed I had fetched my
yearly order of Chinese cooking/stir frying spices and fluids - I mean, the real stuff.
It's just an interest of mine, to be able to cook like they do in a good Chinese restaurant.

Notice I didn't say I actually can do it like the pros...but it's a reasonable fascimile. :rolleyes:

Well, apparently I'm good enough at it that she's wanting stir fry - and yeah, I'll use pork
in it (my favorite, short of Mongolian). I'll honor her request. :thumbsup:

Doesn't anybody do a Leg-O-Lamb at Easter, or are they just to scared to try something different? I associate ham's with T-giving and X-mas more so than with Easter, although I like the traditional English X-mas dinner of a Roast Beast and Yorkshire pudding.
Sacrificing a lamb for Easter just seems more appropriate without getting Religious or Political!!
Tomorrow's supposed to be nice enough to grill so grilled L-O-L for Easter dinner, what's you having?

We used to have a roast lamb dinner at Easter.....but since the weather is still so warm....a roast dinner doesn't go down well.

Traditionally our family has Lamb, Turkey and Ham for Christmas Dinner ...always have done...always will. Although for a few years now, some of the younger grand-children prefer roast chicken instead of turkey. That's easy to cook....and my Mother-in-law usually does a joint of roast pork also......all that in the middle of Summer. :lol:

Oh yes....we follow that with traditional Christmas pudding - stuffed with fruit, and topped with brandy butter, and whipped cream.

We have ham for every holiday, even on Thanksgiving when there's Turkey we still have ham as well.
