Owner's manual lists the capacity at 21.1 and I put in 21.5 this morning.....and probably could have baby fed a bit more!

Had to explain to my wife again that the fuel helps cool the pump and not to run her car down below a 1/4 tank, I feel your pain.

I had my dakota run out at 1/4 tank.. i never go below 1/4 now... gonna have to put gas in anyway.. why not fill it up... Shame gas hasn't come down... i heard a rumour it was going to a few months ago... bigly...

Never do I go below 1/2 a tank before I fill up. That is when just driving locally. However, if I'm on the road, then I will try to get around 300 miles on the trip odometer and then stop to fill back up. And as mentioned above, with all the new in-tank fuel pumps these days, the 1/4 tank rule keeps it cool and operating while not under stress and heat when it drops below 1/4...cr8crshr/Bill:usflag::usflag::usflag:

My wife is just the opposite. Any time the needle is not on the F, she thinks we should top off the tank. I like to get it down to a quarter before I start looking for a gas station.

Told her that 3 times now....
They're looking for a nice strong handsome man to rescue them!
She's got one of those already!
Stupidity!
She's just too busy or is waiting for me to fill it up instead of her lol. Just wish she would tell me a bit ahead of time....

Or cheap & want the other person to spend the $$$
even if they are married...

I always told my girls fill up when it gets to 1/4
especially with any carbureted engine, older fuel systems too
picking up trash & causing issues
it's just a less chance/s, of picking up crap from the fuel tank, in the fuel sock
like my RR has a 19 gal tank, the last 1/2 goes away faster than the 1st half
last qtr., seems like it goes away really quick, so I don't let it get under a 1/4
if I can help it...

Both my trucks are modern EFI they are usually filled up,
close to when, it's about 1/4 tank, both have 21 gal tanks,
with a small reserve, not registered on the gauge, maybe 2 gal.s
seems like the last 1/4 of a tank isn't very accurate
when filling up it varies from 13-16. maybe 17 gal.s tops
& I top it off every time, as much as it will hold
so I know the capacity & I can calculate mileage the best...

Told her to fill it up at least when the light comes on. Both of my Dakotas have a 5 gallon reserve when the light comes on. Down side is one of them only has a 15 gallon tank while the other one is 22. It's the first one that I know of to hear about having that size tank. It's the only down side to that truck.

Or they don't like the smell of gasoline on their clothes or hand/s...

I heard it both ways

Lol, y'all have some brave women, my wife considers it empty when it has 1/4 tank. Won't drive it til we go and I pump it. Strong, independant woman.

And then make a special trip to town to fill it, after she's been driving past 16 gas stations for days
!@#$%^&*!!

If you never let the needle go down to E, how would you know how far you can go according to the gauge. If you put 21.5 gallons in a 21.1 gallon tank, your gauge is pretty darn close if it’s showing empty.

If she cooks your dinner, washes your clothes and does the dishes.....I would let that slide.

I put fuel in my wife's car all the time when she tells me it's low. Mainly because I know That I will get a receipt and I know it will be the right fuel. I also go a few extra miles and save a lot of money doing so.....most people just cruise into the first gas station they see and fill 'er up.

We have wildly different prices on the same gas from the same bulk tanks at different stations.....so saving up to 20 or even 30 cents per litre (Quart for you people who measure in Washing Machines) makes a difference. Especially so because I also fill my spare bottles with diesel and premium. :) Self-serve stations here are a lot cheaper than 'full serve' - that just means there is a jockey at the register inside....they don't come running out to check tyre pressures like in the '50's.

Way back when, used to lecture my wife about not letting the tank get too low. I’d sometimes see a dangerously low fuel level when I’d drive her car. At the time we lived in an apartment in a semi-rural area and we had appreciable distances to drive to work. She would usually leave for work 10-15 minutes before I did. There was just one main road to the city burbs, so we drove the same road to the freeway.

One morning I saw her car on the side of the road and figured she ran it out of gas. (Yep, correct.) She wasn’t too concerned knowing I’d be along to see her. I drove past her pretending I didn’t see her as I saw her waving her arms and jumping up & down in my rear-view mirror. I drove about a ½ mile then turned around. Well, I got a couple laughs out of it…but man was she PISSED! We hadn’t been married long at the time.

I didn’t need to say much; though she seemed more attentive to her fuel gauge after that. On reflection I felt crummy doing what I did after seeing how much this scared her. But just maybe the experience prevented her from running out of gas when it could be worse.

Oh well, for the past 30-years I’ve been filling her gas tank 98% of the time. She says she never looks at the gauge. Low-fuel warning is a comforting feature; though I have lectured her and our daughters to refill at a ¼ full for reasons posted above.

She cooks mostly and does the dishes if I don't beat her to them. I'm better at it lol. My clothes are easy....I don't separate anything and if there's something that she needs washed and doesn't care if they are in with my stuff, it's no biggie. She's pretty busy with many things with the big one being her daughter that a got a brain injury when she was a teenager. Norma also works 2 days a week as an....wait for it....an even specialist....yup, she's one of those older ladies that gives out samples at a Costco. She's a 'breaker' so she's always on the move every 15 minutes.

I'll fill the tank when I know it needs filling but don't always drive her vehicle. I usually turn it around for her since she's not real good at backing up and will check things when I do that but haven't turned it around for her lately. She's also good about stopping at the cheaper filling stations. Can't think of any full service gas stations around here. And the only things around there that have liters in it are soft drink bottles :D
