Yup...

You need enough movement up (it's really weight transfer to the rear) to get the car "on the tire" and keep it there. Everything beyond that is a total waste. With a really good chassis and front/rear bias (neither of which these cars typically have) , you can overcome the need to transfer that weight and then keep it on the tire with pure power. Now, wheelies are a hell of a lot of fun but the first time you drop one on the headers/pan it becomes way less fun.

If your just wanting to do it once and get a pic, just take the front shocks off and bounce it up. I'd like to get a pic of mine (when finished) leaving the line at the local strip with the wheels up. Funny, but nowadays it seems that most of the fastest cars are the ones that don't wheelie.

As stated already. Gear, converter, good tire preferably slicks, loose front shock setting, and for a little bit more... build a couple of 100 pound weight bars and put them in the trunk as far rearward as you can get them, this will help.

Watch the fast (4.0-4.5@1/8) drag radial cars. The wheels are seldom more than 1" off the ground on a good pass.

Bobtile is not lying. These big wheels stands cost me a bunch of wins last year. Wheelies for me are a thing of the past.
1 to 2 feet maximum for me now.
AS I like to go fast and going up slowed me down .08-.1
Took me a long time to figure out where my ET went. I was chasing everything but the obvious.
