*First I'll clarify, I have searched and read through all the forums and tried every suggestion...*

I have a '79 Chrysler New Yorker 5th Ave, 27,000 original miles. 360-2, used ProForm 66991 conversion kit.

After the install, first test fire backfired then wouldn't fire again after. We thought during the process it dumped too much fuel in and flooded it. Checked spark at coil and at spark plugs.

The spark seems to have a good amount of heat, and the dizzy is set exactly where the original one was.

We're kind of at a loss... and we're kind of "hobbyists" NOT mechanics!

Again, I did search, I read the threads, I am stuck. Help is what I'm looking for here, if your intentions are to tell me to do more research then please don't post as I am still continuously researching the problem.

Thank in advance! Here is a pic of her, Evelyn:

Sounds like your dizzy is 180 degrees off

Yup. Or the firing order is off. Put the #1 cylinder (right side front as you're looking at it from the front of the car) at top dead center on the compression stroke. Nows a good time to check the timing marks on your balancer too..it should be at 0. You want your distributor's rotor pointed directly at the #1 tower, twist the dist to make it so. If the coil is connected properly it should start, then you can connect your timing light to set your initial advance. If you have a vac adv dist disconnect and plug the line while setting the initial (or static) timing to wherever it runs best and gives the highest vacuum reading, probably between 12 and 17 degrees btdc. Hopefully this helps.

Cool car, by the way...looks super clean. I dig it.

After writing all that I noticed you said it wouldn't fire, not that it wouldn't start. Are we working on the same problem? Or were you saying it won't even turn over?

Great input fellas! Won't fire is correct the motor cranks just fine. I'll have some time to work on it this after noon. Will post an update!

And thanks! I am the second owner of this car, it had sat in a climate controlled garage for 11 years before I bought it.

Torque converter has seized up and blew to pieces shortly after I rebuilt carb, replaced radiator, new rear pinion seal and bought a new battery.

She's almost ready for the show season! And she's also for sale...

Ok check the dizzy, not 180° off. Double checked firing order. I've seen people have added a relay to send 12v straight to the ignition module... maybe my spark isn't hot enough? Every time we test fire we just flood it again.

Got it running today! This was not something you can approach with a trial and error mind set... we missed one thing, splicing the run side together at the ballast resistor. I am going to write an update later when I have more time. I will say one thing about it though, I've never seen a muffler blow apart like that...
