I like old school muscle, every time I see a lowered muscle car with big rims/low profile I hate it. Pro touring would be sweet with stock rims and tires though.

Your in the right place for F.A.S.T. racing. That venue has not progressed past about Michigan let alone to my part of the country.

The rules are pretty simple, keep it stock appearing on the OUTSIDE the inside is pretty much your choice to make your car run. The thing that I REALLY like about it is that with the stock tires it acts like a fuse to all the power. Not NEARLY as hard on the car as dumping the clutch at 6K on big slicks that hook and send a shock wave of hurt to every part of the car. You definately have to learn how to soft launch those cars. I don't think that venue is anywhere near as hard on the cars a bracket racing.

Look at the MPH vs. E.T on those cars. It is pretty obvious that if they were on slicks the E.T. would be seriously better. There are six pack and Hemi cars runing in the mid to low 10s in F.A.S.T. not bad for running on G70 X 15" bias tires and running through factory exhaust manifolds, mufflers and full exhaust system.

Most of the cars running in that venue can be respectable at an OEM car show and race competitively on the track in the same day.

I believe the cream of the crop are dipping into the 9's now

pro-touring or resto mod cars are cool I think. They have modern suspensions and electronics and engines tucked into a classic ride. Supposed to be a better quality ride and performance as well as gas mileage.
But they are hit or miss with true old school guys and so the value is .. cant think of the word...LOL

I thought about a hybrid in the future with the SS. Modern day 440 w/ecu and all the works from a 5.7 or 6.2? maye upgrade the suspension at the same time. I'm not into the huge wheels and 0 sidewall, certainly doesnt give a nice ride, but a 17 or 18 and 40 series tire is nice on some cars.
I can appreciate both sides. I wouldnt take a Superbird and pro-tour it thats for sure but a RR or SS or GTX I would if the original package wasnt that impressive..Maybe a Charger as well.. 318 cars but not and r/t or something valuable

318 poly, auto, manual brakes and steering, no ac.

Now 440, Hotchkis and firm feel suspension, new radiator and other little things to be reliable in our 110 heat of the last few weeks. She will have 18's, large 13" or 14" disc brakes, maybe a t56, and then fuel injection.

No matter what she is already a ball to drive, reliable in the hottest are of this country right now, and more is to come. Call it pro touring or restomod. No matter what I am having fun.

Mopars handle just fine the way they come. Ma mopar makes torsion bars and rear springs for road racing and every from of performance in between. I've already saw four nice B body cars with wrinkles in the roof and sagging rockers because this crap after market coil over stuff put the weight on a uni body where it don't belong. I've also caved inner fenders caused by the shock towers carrying the load of the car.

While I totally agree in theory, I haven't seen many cars with these aftermarket suspensions to see the aftermath. Maybe the embarrassed owners keep the cars out of public view...

If the Tire and Wheel combination is merely for show, I can see why some might not like it. When I set out to find wheels for my 70, I looked at what styles were available that had a hint of tradition with a modern "spin". Diameter was partially dictated by tire availability. I wanted tires that would give me great lateral grip as well as a reasonably decent ride. I'm not sure if my car even qualifies as Pro-Touring since the body is essentially stock. The engine is a 440 based 493 with a carburetor. No overdrive. No power windows or A/C. I do have disc brakes and some really comfortable seats!

I like that bad *** black 68 GTX. Not so much on the wheels - I would put cragars on it. But the car sitting in a lot with the Chicago skyline in the background looks nasty.

20" foose black legends in the rear 18" in the front with full disc brakes, qai complete front suspension, shocks, toque boxes, mopar ss leafs and hotchs sub frame connectors and rear sway bars. Also frame rails have been double plated inside. Rack and pinion, 295/30/20 and 245/35/18

I think 68-70 protouring chargers look AWESOME!!! I am building one soon, car is sitting in the garage, maybe, lol. I have to chose whether to keep her as a 70 R/T - 440 4bbl, automatic, bucket seat, console, plum crazy, A/C, car or, turn her into a firebreathing fuel injected aluminum headed stroked big block, with 4 wheel disk, 18" wheels, 4 speed auto, lowered stance, digital gauges, modern interior, protouring car?????
I was trying to find a 68 nothing special charger, that I could just go crazy with, and do my 440 R/T all original-ish... BUT they are not exactly easy to find and I am starting to lean towards using the 70 r/t.....

I dont know... But I appreciate them all, the retro pro touring rods, are just as sick as any original car, just have to love them all for what they are, no one is wrong...

can someone give me a definition of just EXACTLY what a Pro Touring car is? I see the term tossed around but don't know where it came from and if there is a real definition.

“restomod” is taking an early muscle car and updating it so that it handles like a modern day sports car. It is mainly going to be used for normal driving conditions. A “pro touring” car is is taking an early muscle car and updating it so that it can be driven in competitive racing environments. It will see limited street time.
