I am trying to figure out where the best possible place to mount an electric fuel pump on my 72 Road Runner. If any of you are running one on this body style, could you post pics of where they are mounted or give me an idea of where you have mounted it.

The guy I bought my 71 super bee clone from mounted it right next to the fuel tank in the front between frame rail and tank if it was me id put it in the engine compartment were the charcoal canister is just above stock location on fender well for easier repair or issues

as close to the tank as possible.normally a good place is the fram rail on the pass side, just in front of the diff.i have also mounted them above the diff for low cars.

This is a pic of where I am putting mine right now. It is on the passenger side frame rail. I put it as far forward as I could to try to keep the exhaust heat off of it. Its about Put a heat shield around it to keep some of the exhaust heat off it. I am running a stock fuel tank. I haven't run with it here yet though!

normally you want electric pumps as close to the fuel sorce as possible since they normally have poor suction compared to output.if you are running a stock or mild engine then it wont make much difference.but,if you are running a hot motor, you may have fuel delivery issuses.

Yeah - I'm with you.

I am hoping that the distance below the tank will help make up for the distance from the tank in this spot. Giving me the advantage of gravity. The bottom of the pump is about 6 inches below the tank in this location.

I have also mounted a full-flow filter back on the passenger frame above the pump to help keep it primed. It is about 40-42 inches forward of the tank though.

I mounted mine on the floorboard basically just in front of the differential mounted so the top/bottom of the pump run "north/south" on the car. This puts the pump about 1 ft. from the fuel source (stock tank) and away from the exahaust heat. The rear end will get no where near it even at full suspension travel and I've put pumps there for 20+ years without a problem. The only negative is that it does have a very noticeable sound inside the car, but some rubber spacers on the attaching bolts or something like that might help.
