Which side is the right side? No, not political lol

Here! Here!. Motors are electric. I.E. the starter motor. Unless you drive and electric car it has an engine'

Right and left from the drivers seat is correct to me. Also think of this. British cars are right hand drive.

Then you have to remember the flywheel. Standing behind the engine with the flywheel being closest to you.

What gets me is someone calling a engine a motor!
Spot on! a motor is run with electricity. I always try to use the engine term.

OK so tell me this--If left side is drivers and right side is passenger, why don't we use that to determine whether the ENGINE is turning clockwise or counter clockwise??.........................MO

Yes, but what if the British guy is left handed????????....................MO

Has anyone given you directions while you drive and said " Turn left -right here"...........................MO

My wife is so terrible with left/right that my 5 year old asks me "your left or mommy's left?"

My lab spends a lot of time in the lake and get's crud in her ears from time to time and always refer to it as the passenger side or driver's side ear. I'll tell my wife, check out Maggie's passenger side ear......................

Just saying

I always make note of which end of the engine I'm looking at for rotation. And my wife and I have been married since 86 and she still has trouble with her left and right....also which way is north or south. I finally gave up!

Lol I seriously do the same thing, all due to the previously mentioned wife's issue with her left and right. "Hey honey, check Buster's passenger side front paw. Seems to be favoring it a bit." Haha good times.

Well, I guess this thread has finally gone to the dogs!

excuse me, sir but don't you mean the stem?

Good thing we're not talking about working on a ship!

abaft: at or toward the stern of a ship, or further back from a location.[1]
aboard: onto or within a ship, or in a group.[2]
above: a higher deck of the ship.[1]
aft: toward the stern of a ship.[1]
adrift: floating in the water without propulsion.
aground: resting on the shore or wedged against the sea floor.[3]
ahull: with sails furled and helm lashed alee.[4]
alee: on or toward the lee (the downwind side).[5]
aloft: the stacks, masts, rigging, or other area above the highest solid structure.[1]
amidships: near the middle part of a ship.[1]
aport: toward the port side of a ship (opposite of "astarboard").[6]
ashore: on or towards the shore or land.[7]
astarboard: toward the starboard side of a ship (opposite of "aport").[8]
astern: toward the rear of a ship (opposite of "forward").[9]
athwartships: toward the sides of a ship.[1]
aweather: toward the weather or windward side of a ship.[10]
aweigh: just clear of the sea floor, as with an anchor.[11]
below: a lower deck of the ship.[1]
belowdecks: inside or into a ship, or down to a lower deck.[12]
bilge: the underwater part of a ship between the flat of the bottom and the vertical topsides[13]
bottom: the lowest part of the ship's hull.
bow (or stem): front of a ship (opposite of "stern")[1]
centerline: an imaginary, central line drawn from the bow to the stern.[1]
fore or forward: at or toward the front of a ship or further ahead of a location (opposite of "aft")[1]
inboard: attached inside the ship.[14]
keel: the bottom structure of a ship's hull.[15]
leeward: side or direction away from the wind (opposite of "windward").[16]
on deck: to an outside or muster deck (as "all hands on deck").[17]
on board: somewhere on board the ship.[18]
outboard: attached outside the ship.[19]
port: the left side of the ship, facing forward (opposite of "starboard").[1]
starboard: the right side of the ship, when facing forward (opposite of "port").[1]
stern: the rear of a ship (opposite of "bow").[1]
topside: on the ship's main weather deck.[1]
underdeck: a lower deck of a ship.[20]
yardarm: an end of a yard spar below a sail.
waterline: where the water surface meets the ship's hull.
weather: side or direction from which wind blows (same as "windward").[16]
windward: side or direction from which wind blows (opposite of "leeward").[16]

LOL.

I think the best reason to use Left and Right with a car is it is something we and our British and down under friends can agree on. If the Right front wheel got a flat, that is the same in both places. But if the passenger front wheel got a flat, which is it?!?

Huh. Well I guess that settles that, hawk.

Linkage Side {Left Side}

Mopar V-8 = Odd Number Cylinders {Left Bank} and Even Number Cylinders {Right Bank}

Still confuses them.

When writing estimates I tell the customer that I need the VIN. Customer, "Oh you don't need that the car is a 2011." OK thanks...

Another good one is "I need a left front quarter panel." Oh really? Fenders are on the front and quarters are on the rear.

My favorite is "my red light keeps coming on". So you check for a loose connection or low fluid level, nothing is found. Then you ask "what do you do after the red light comes on?" They reply with "well I have to restart it".

Well, I guess this thread has finally gone to the dogs!

Yea...

Passenger & Drivers side are easier with most people,
I'd think common sense would dictate,
it's from sitting behind the wheel/driving position, referencing Right & Left side of a car...
