Thinking about putting a 440 eng in 69 roadrunner,so which year block is the best,mid 60,late 60,early 70?

most perfer the 74-78 blocks to do up as they have the bigger cooling ports and thicker webbing in the block, but with the 68-73 you can bore out bigger there is a good read about these on 440source.com.

preferably i would go the later block which i have

And don't waste money on a HP block. Unless you really want the HP stamp. Most have been abused, you are better off with grandpa's land yacht engine. Once you start building it, any differences can be addressed...cam, etc...

440 RB cylinder block

:iamwithstupid: If it's just a street bruiser or even an occasional street/strip car, any year 440 block is just fine, if you going to race it, you will want to be more selective on what block you build, core shift, bore size & cylinder wall thickness is very important, sonic testing & magnafluxing are both a good idea & cheap security... Also if you want to make serious power I highly suggest, using a "block girdle", with a quality, pan, oiling system/pump also... even some quality aftermarket main caps & I also highly suggest "quality stud hardware, top & bottom end"...The cylinder heads is "really" where you will make the most power improvements, don't skimp in that area ever... good luck & have fun
