CHINA - a 38-year-old man leaped to his death after an argument with his girlfriend who insisted they continue shopping. CCTV captured Tao Hsiao and his girlfriend in a mall in Xuzhou, Jiangsu province, east China where they had reportedly been shopping for five hours or so before he hit his limit.

Eyewitnesses said Hsiao could be heard telling his girlfriend that they already had more bags than they could carry, but she insisted on hitting one more store where there was a sale on shoes.

An eyewitness said: "He told her she already had enough shoes, more shoes that she could wear in a lifetime, and it was pointless buying any more. She started shouting at him, accusing him of being a skinflint, and of spoiling Christmas. It was a really heated argument."

The argument continued until Hsiao threw the bags on the floor and himself over the balcony, dropping seven stories to his death and smashing Christmas decorations on the way down. He was killed on impact.

A spokesman for the mall said: "His body was removed fairly quickly. He actually landed on one of the stalls below and then fell to the floor so although the store was damaged it meant he didn't hit anybody.

"This is a tragic incident, but this time of year can be very stressful for many people."

this time of year "sends people over the edge", so to speak sometimes... I just don't go to malls anymore & if I do, have to absolutely, this time of year, it's a "quickie" in & out attack, usually only locally too, not any of the big strip malls anymore...LOL... I do 99% of my Christmas shopping online now & avoid the all rude, arrogant selfish type idiots shopping out there, it seems there's no real integrity & politeness while shopping anymore...

I can relate!
Truly...
My wife will walk, look...pick it up...asl me about it and then put it back on the shelf...

Me, I'm in and out in a flash!

Women love to shop!

God Bless that Chineese man, she literally "drove him over the edge"

That's funny....f~cked up, but funny!!!

Rampant consumerism has hit China like a ton of bricks. I used to be worried that China would take over the world but we can rest easy. Soon the Chinese will be shopping at the Bejing Wal-Mart and complaining about all of the Vietnamese crap in the store and the starvation wages they pay their employees.

Now that's some funny chit right there !!...

That's true. And the stores are very different there than they are here, but they give people what they want, just like they do here. Just like Kmart, Sears, Home Depot, Macy's, Old Navy, The Gap, Target, Lowe's, etc, etc. Any and all retailers you could possibly name, and they ALL sell the same products. A Sunbeam toaster sold at Walmart is made in the exact same factory (in China) as the one sold at Williams Sonoma. A Mr Coffee is a Mr Coffee no matter where you buy it. Levis, Farberware, GE, Martha Stewart, whatever. There aren't different factories for different retailers, the Chinese made **** found in Walmart is the EXACT SAME Chinese made **** found everywhere else, why make Walmart the target of all the wrath? They've at least pledged (for what its worth) to stock USA made products whenever they're available. Has Nieman Marcus done that? Or JCPenney? Or anybody else? At all.....ever? Short answer: no. Besides a few specialty stores who ONLY stock USA made products, EVERYBODY carries the SAME ****.

Angry and upset about the lack of manufacturing in America? So am I, but the blame rests elsewhere. Why single out a particular company for all the slings and arrows of your frustration? I'm addressing this to no one in particular, I hear it all the time from people and it makes no sense. I've got no dog in this fight, I don't work for or represent Walmart in any way. But focusing on ONE retailer when there's literally hundreds doing the same thing is simplistic and lazy.

I actually agree with most of what you say. I can't really blame the Waltons for coming up with a retailing strategy that is obviously so successful. IMHO most of the blame lies with the consumers that constantly demand cheaper and cheaper products and services regardless of the detrimental effect on the quality of the good and services that that they buy. People will shop around for hours to save a couple of buck and then can't understand why the crap they end up with is such low quality. I understand that some consumers are so poor that they are forced to buy the cheapest stuff that they can afford but I don't think that most of the customers of these big box stores fall into that category going by the expensive trucks and motorhomes I see in the parking lot.
The main problem is that this constant demand for lower price and therefore lower quality has the effect of driving some quality products and services out of the marketplace. As an example, on this board, I routinely hear guys complain about the low quality of aftermarket parts. A lot of people aren't willing to pay top dollar for high quality parts so the supply of the high quality stuff eventually dries up. You can make this correlation to a lot of consumer products. You always hear that "they don't make 'em like they used to". For the most part I believe that to be true. JMHO.

Well...what is not being said here is that unions have made many companies outsource their product overseas or to non-union states.

I guess the guy committed shoe-icide !!!!!! ( OK, gotta give credit to Rush, heard it there today).
