Who else has a condenser attached to their coil?

This is referencing a previous post of mine "spark seems weak". I have worked on other parts of the car for awhile but now am back to the weak spark issue. Even though my distributor was never used, it was 30+ years old so I have just replaced the reluctor and pickup and it seemed to help. On a Chrysler that I just parted out, I noticed that the coil had a condenser attached to it. Going through some old pictures of cars I owned, in an underhood shot, I noticed there was also one on a '73 Cuda (attached to one half of the ballast resistor) 440 with electronic ignition. Could a condenser be my missing link. I have many wiring diagrams of Chrysler ignition systems and none show this condenser. Anyone else have one on theirs? Thanks.

the condenser is inside a points distributor. i think what you are seeing is the radio noise suppressor. a pic would help.

Yeah, the condenser off the coil primary is for radio noise suppression. It acts like a filter in a DC power supply. You don't need to add it to make your ignition work, and if it's shorted your ignition won't work.
