Who has a fast street car?

I get stuck on the words "Street Car?" I think you have to put 15k miles per year to qualify? Under that rule? My 2014 Cadillac XTS V-sport. Factory twin turbo 6cyl. We had a race between my near stock 440 GTX and the Cadillac. Both 400+ HP. Cadillac is about 500 lbs heavier. Cadillac has superior gear ratios with its 6 speed auto. Vs GTX 4-speed with stock Dana 3.54:1 rear. My Cadillac (with friend driving) pulled to about 1 car length lead. And held to 1/4 mi. The 440 quickly reeled it in soon after. (440 was spitting mad at that point in its powerband.) Then easily pulled away. So Cadillac daily driver with more than 15k per year. Est 1/4 ET? 13.6.

In Maryland we have Street Rod plates.
You don't need an inspection or stickers, you just need a picture of the car in your garage and it has to be provably heavily modified. So you can get away with almost anything.
I walked into the DMV and walked out an hour later with metal plates, no temp tags needed.

there's Huge difference between a commuter/daily driver
& just a "street-car"

if it's legal, treaded DOT tires (for the PoPo, no my definition)
lights, brake lights, seat belts, windshield etc.
(wipers would be nice but not required)
it has insurance & current DMV plates/tags/reg.
& driven on the street regularly
or even just occasionally or semi-regularly

not some cop-out (above at top of the page) fabricated nonsense BS
(edited, even if it has a tube chassis, because it doesn't matter what frame it has)
it does not have to be driven for a min. of 12,000-15,000 miles a year BS
at all
or some new POS with computer control everything,
that hauls kids to school or drive to work &/or 50-150 miles daily
to qualify, as a 'street-car'

lots of my cars I've had over the decades
many don't/haven't got that many miles in a year
even those that were 100% OE from the factory
that's nonsense

I like the drag-week description of what qualifies
a few of them run into the 5's in the 1/4 mile at over 200 mph
that tow trailers for 1500+ miles while they are at it
&/or between races

So you are thinking stock frame? (Or modified from a stock frame?) With an actual production VIN? (No tube chassis?) I could live with that. I think it's simple logic that a tube chassis car is a race car. Not street.

LOL! 15k miles a year?!

I drive mine to work, cruise nights and occasionally to small surrounding towns but no way I put near that many miles on it! It easily gets 11 mpg, is quiet and comfortable and cruises effortlessly. Tags, insurance, lights and all steel. Basically I took a bone stock car from '63 and put in a better powertrain.

Had the 62 out last weekend. After driving it around for a week, it was deemed good to go. Due to my sons work schedule first time in a year. Either the trans or converter was hurt. 60ft was off .10. But out of the box on the street tune 14-15psi, same 3 or 4 year old tires, same he drives on the street. 9.82@138.

depends on how "fast" is determined. To me "fast" is determined by what you are running for what you have. For instance, to me a factory stock slant six with 2.76 gears running a 16.99 is faster than a full blown Hemi with 4.30's running 12.50, for what they are.

• My favorite analysis is this: If I told you I know somebody that can bench press a 100 lbs, you'd say "big deal". If I told you it was a 3 yr old girl, you'd say "WHOA!!".

Fast is relative depends on skill.
