I'm using a max wedge scoop on a 64 dodge. I will not be using velocity stacks, but I'm thinking the scoop is a waste if I don't open up the hood. Curious to see what you guys have done, would like something pseudo factory.

Hood cut out

This is how I did mine, I cut the center of the hood out and mounted the scoop. Hopefully the pics will give ya an idea of where/how to do it.

Here's what i did on my 62'. Followed the same concept in cutting out the area inside of the hood frame. The motor offest makes it a bit closer on one side but it clears a 14" filter just fine.

I "bought" a template from someone.
It has the exact "2" hole placement that the Factory did on the 63s. I imagine the 64s are the same.
I can send you a pic when I get home (my home computer) if you like.
PS: My hood is from the "Tynman"

I am curious to see what someone did on a 65 Coronet, as they have frame section running right down the center of the hood. An opening on either side, I guess?

if you need to cut through a hood brace to make a hole weld caps over the now open ends(kinda like boxing a frame end)to keep the strength.after that, run a metal rod(around 1/8th inch) along the edge of any unsupported sheet metal and spotweld together.a little body work and it looks great with plenty of strength.

I ain't sure I could bring myself to cut that main hood frame. I'd try two openings first, I believe. I think with the early Hemi scoop like I want, it would cover them up.

exactly.thats why i said if you have to cut them.most of the hoods i have cut have been for blowers and turbos,so i have had to cut alot of bracing.if you can get away with going around the bracing then do it for sure.i of course prefer to use a fiberglass hood when possible.those, sadly, are not available for many of the cars we love.

here is how mine is done with a big single hole, and the bracing is cut and filled with material.

Man! I just love looking at your car 5.7!

I see Hitit is showing off again, lol!!

Thanks ninjapumpkin!!

This is from a Template I "bought" for my 63 Max Wedge Clone car:
The dimensions "should" be the same for a 64 car. (I'm truly not sure on this}
I paid $45 for the template. It was PERFECT, done to Factory specs.
Perhaps this can help you a little bit.
I sure hope it does.
Good luck,

I dont have any underside pics of my hood. So I cut and 8" hole in it to let fresh air in but it is not sealed. Ron
