Was that the incident many years ago where the mig pilot defected. I thought I remember we tested the aircraft before giving it back?

No, that was a much more advanced Mig-25 in that defection. I would have suspected that since some of these Mig-21s were also built under license in India, the US government managed to swing a covert deal...but I'm only guessing.
