So the next mod I was going to tackle this year was disc brakes........until a friend of mine gave me an idea. I bought this track over 20 years go. This weekend it finally saw the light of day. I made the platform and got it together. It does work but it could be better. Cars are sloppy and I need to really clean all the connections. I can slide the platform in and out. Maybe add a couple of cup holders. Next is disc brakes.

It's all about prioritizing one's priorities.

I still have to get a deep cycle marine battery and an inverter.

Nice job

Forget the brakes and invest in some scale grass, pit lanes, grandstands, etc.

The car aint bad either.

I'm going to paint the board a grassy green and add guardrails. I will put in pit lanes just to keep the extra cars on.

You'll need one of those Reacher, Grabber, Picker-Upper deals for when the cars de-slot.

It's actually pretty easy to access from the rear doors. Plus I'm 6'1" so I have a long reach. If it does become a problem I might put up some netting along the edges to keep the cars on the board.

Looks like a Tyco track. My grandson and I built this one from several sets. Hours of memories with him.

So tell me. how fast will the slot cars go when you are say driving 70mph?

Maybe they need discs first?

Pretty cool and unique! Here's an AFX track I built during the doldrums of Covid, my daughter and I had a lot of spare time on our hands. I had a design I drafted over 30 years ago on graph paper that had an equal number of outside curve tracks for each lane, so the racing would be fair and each car would have equal opportunity to lean on the throttle and guardrails. Built it on a 4' x 8' sheet of plywood. Took it to another level by coloring the slots in each lane with UV-reactive acrylic markers, made my own custom Lexan guardrails, also painted on the edges with UV-reactive markers, and my daughter helped design and color a clear Lexan sheet with some decorations that really pop under a tube blacklight. Lots of fun for the kids, especially with the cars with headlights and police lights.

I let my daughter color some of the crappier cars so they'd glow.

why didn't I think of using a sheet of plywood back when I was a kid? Sure makes moving the track around easier without disassembly. It would also be cool to install some perimeter fences (or box it in) so if it's on the floor it's not so easy to accidentally kick it with your foot.

I just found my old tool box and one slot car from the '80's when my son and I raced twice a week at a slot car joint...

That looks fantastic!

I added more track and painted the plywood green. Guardrails and bridges installed. Added a few brad nails to hold it in place. I will be making some better trestles and screwing them down. Yesterday went to a local cruise night and plugged it in. A few of the old timers were racing. I will be running it off a marine battery in the near future.
