Who uses a ratchet shifter on the street?

I ran the cable straight out the floor board. it's really not super close to headers, but I ran insulating sleeve anyway.

Before the pro ratchet, the car came with a z-gate (total POS). But it had the same forward cable routing and it's never beeen a problem.

That's great to hear positive feedback from real world testing. It looks like a really well-made unit, I can't wait to get it in
I installed a b&m pro ratchet a year or two ago. Was a bit of a pain with a standard valve body - just having to go from park to 1 took too many damn clicks. my cope reverse manual takes care of that. The shifter really shifts like a dream, super short throw and watch-like precision movement, no complaints outa me.

Myself I use the B & M Pro Stick and I love it. Its simple to use and did not cost a ton. I am not a fan of ratchet shifters as I like to know what gear I am in by the posistion of the shifter. This Pro Stick has been in my 63 since 2006 and I still use the same original cable that I put it in with in 2006. It has worked great and never given me any trouble. Ron

I've had the B&M megashifter in my car for about 15 years. I absolutely love it. I have a reverse manual valve body in my car. When I'm really on the gas, my car accelerates so quickly, I have to shift from 1st to 2nd almost immediately and still try to steer. I really like how I can just bang the shifter forward without having to grab the handle and move it to the position I want. It's a bit quicker that doesn't seem like much until you've got your hands full.. just my opinon...

Using the Outlaw 2 shifter. Burned up the cable it came with. 5' with I think a 2.5" throw. RMVB

Did another 5' cable with a 3" throw and the throw was a bit too long. What I did was add a little rubber clip to the trans pan that loops around the cable to hold it tight against the trans, wrapped in heat tape and then added a heat sleeve. So far it's working. I cant seem to find a good way to route the cable with headers. So best chance is to keep it away.

I have the b and m pro ratchet and love it. I've been running it for over 15 years never had a cable stretch. Learned the hard way with front short cable. Melted in the first 5 min of startup. Lol, I went with the 8 foot/heat shielding and ran it on the inside lip of my K frame. Lasted the whole time since.

Wow so for the first 15min I absolutly loved my pro ratchet . Unfortunately I'm probably going to have to swap it out for a turbo action even though I really don't want to.. .long story short after 30min the cable melted and totally locked up , then left me stranded on the side of road. I really don't even know how it happened because I ran as much in the car as I could, put it in a fire sleeve, & ran it exactly how john cope told me to. The only thing I can think of is that the hooker headers have one primary tube that runs real close to the fire wall, tti wraps the engine more.... In any case this sucks , I still am going to try and make it work but don't want this to happen again .

Same here.

I did the pistol grip version and run a fire sleeve over it. Worked perfectly now for over 3,500 miles..

Man I just don't get it. They are pulling it apart today so I'll soon know at what point it melted

I sleeve my B&M cable, then route it between the starter and the block. Keeps it tight to the motor and away from the headers.

Yes, this thing is definitely adding up to more than expected. This is the first time I actually had it at a shop also. .
This thing must be getting expensive if you are paying someone to do all that??

You learn after the first cable melts to go with some type of fire sleeve. I did ,727 rmvb headers for 10 yrs and 15,000 miles. So far. I used the original red fire sleeve.

Took an hour ride home and all is good. Seems like the 8' cable did the trick.....I hope lol
