From the pictures, all I can tell you is that the engine is a B-block, and it is orange. Are there some numbers on the flat, angled, pad next to the distributor hole? What are the numbers on the sides of the block, on the right? Are there any on the left side of the block? Are there any numbers you can see in the rocker-arm area of the cylinder heads?

I'm not 100% sure here but the damper looks like its for a steel crank. If it is for a steel crank and the crank is claimed to be original to the block (383 or 400). It is not likely this is a 74... Take Scotts advice and get the block casting numbers and especially the numbers punched into the info pad next to the distributor hole.

Here is some casting info you can use... note no 383's after 71

Yep, no 383's after 71. The pistons shown look like they are for a 71 because of the dish. From the pictures the heads look like 906 castings, and as pointed out, the steel crank damper. Post a pic of the stamp pad and casting numbers.

Cast iron and forged steel....still a bird but different kinds. I guess you could say all cranks are metal :D
