Wide ratio A833?

How rare is the wide ratio A833 3.09 1st gear that was installed behind 318 and /6? Im betting most of yhe cars got 3 speeds. Im really thinking about keeping my 2.76 rear ratio and use the lower 1st gear for some get up and go. Im not building a race car just a daily. I dont like any about the ratios in the o/d a833. Anybody got one bhind a big v-8 with a set of highway gears?

stock a833 3.09 first 1 to 1 fourth in my 64 cuda with a 318 with a 2.91's ran well and got 21+ mpg on the highway

I probably wont get 21mpgs with a 383 and a b-body. Not terribly interested in mpg as long as its 15ish? Did it seem like a big jump between 1st and 2nd shifts? The others are very similar.

I'd like to try that trans with a 2.9 with a 440. Even with a 3.23 it would be an improvement.
