Widest tire without tubing 69GTX

What is the widest wheel tire combo I can
put on my 69 GTX I'm running 15inch wheels all around ?

If you're wondering, an L60 equates to a 275 width in today's sizing scheme....
I have those on my '68 as well, although I hear of some folks successfully running 295's on the
rear without much fuss, too.

I currently have 275 60 15's on a 10" rim on my 69 RR. Have also run 295 50 15's on a 10" rim. Your wheel backspacing is key and has to be perfect to use 10" wheels on these cars, but they will fit. Unless you want to do what we did as kids and jack the rearend up with air shocks, lol.

You've read my post about 235 60 15's on my former '69 GTX. That car was equipped with 285 60 15's on the rear when I bought it. Seller preferred the raked look, I prefer OEM (I'm so old I drove the cars when they were new.) Tires were mounted on 15x8 rims. Only suspension mod was non stock rear spring mounts for another inch or so of lift. I was happy to have the taller tires when I drove the car back to PA from Iowa, running 3500 rpms with a 3:54 Dana rear. Switched the rear spring mounts out to stock as soon as I got home. Shown below with the 235-60-15s all the way around. Still slightly larger than stock.

I have 275/65r15 stuffed under the rear tight but no rubbing

Fred the GTX has 275/60/15 on 8" Magnum 500's on the rear. No issues at all.

The front is not an issue - only the rear. 295’s w/perfect backspacing yeah - but my 275’s even rubbed a little if I didn’t raise the car up 2” with “add a leafs” from Summit. I ran L60’s (275’s) the entire 48 yrs of ownership. Had air shocks back in the day to raise it.

I should also say back in the day I didn’t know the back spacing game and later on the guy that was doing my restoration told me we were good - I had the new wheels shipped to him only to find out he had miscalculated and I was stuck (we were in different states) ….

That depends ENTIRELY on the width and backspace of the wheels they are on. We have NO WAY of knowing. (235 60 on the front, probably. 295 on the back? If the backspace isn't perfect.... probably not)

Hello everybody... I just checked the offset and I have 2 inches tire to leaf spring and 2 inches to fender wall ! with P235/60/15 which are 9.2 wide and the P295/50/15 are 12.2 wide. which gives me 1 inch to spare...What do you all think?

People keep telling you the same thing. Get the exact correct backspace on those 10's and a 295 will fit. You are not listening.....

2 1/2-inch recurve 6 leaf springs on my runner. Running 15X8 Cragar rims. Putting down about 9-1/2 inch of rubber on the ground. Plenty of room 4-1/4 back set on rims. The wider the tire the more it wants to hydroplane on a wet road.

Those rims and tires were sold with the car otherwise I would have done that already.
