Will a stock 400 smoke the tires?

Only had the chance to drive my car once before I put it in storage, and I tried to spin the tires and nothing, I was pretty disappointed. I'm sure it needs a good tune up and all although it seems to run well. Now I know these 400's are like 185hp smog engines with terrible compression, but should I be able to smoke the tire if running correctly on a stock motor? The block tells me it's like a 73-74 4bbl.

Tuna Boat example so no real value but my dad had a 64 300J with a 413 & 2x4bbls that he picked up slightly used in Anchorage Alaska, We travelled in that car all over the US & Europe... Left it in Adana Turkey in 1973 when we moved back to the US... Ordered a new Chrysler to be picked up in New Jersey... He felt he didn't need all the power his old Chrysler had so he opted for a 400... That car was a lazy pig, couldn't spin a tire if your life depended on it... He was severely disappointed, had he been able to test drive I'm sure he would have taken a 440 car

A guy I work with offered to sell me a 400 he got out of a ‘72 Newport a month ago. I declined. It did have a drilled pilot, so a forged crank.

I didn’t read the thread but I’ll tell you my ‘78-400 was installed in a ‘71 Duster. I could smoke the **** outta my 275/60/15’s. Everything was stock save the Holley Street Dominator, electric choke TQ (AKA - small TQ) and the headers.

I didn’t read the thread but I’ll tell you my ‘78-400 was installed in a ‘71 Duster. I could smoke the **** outta my 275/60/15’s. Everything was stock save the Holley Street Dominator, electric choke TQ (AKA - small TQ) and the headers.

With 4.88 gears a Volkswagen will smoke the tires....

It was an awesome light to lighter killing everything local. My son in law and I choose short light to light runs with the locals for a while we had a blast.

I bought a brand new 75 Road Runner, 400, 4 bbl, 3.21 rear. As I recall it would spin a bit but wouldn't get down and smoke the tires. It ran good for 1975 but not good for 1970.
