In taking out the windshield getting ready to send the car out to the Body Shop I noticed a small star in the glass ( about center ).

Question 1

I'm thinking just replace the windshield. :edgy: Now wondering if anyone has ever had these repaired? Getting the car all restored and using all new gaskets around the windows I'd hate to have problems down the road with the repair and have to pull it again.

Question 2

Also thinking about having windows tinted and wondering what kind of luck anyone that has done this is having? Stopped by a place today and thet quoted about 200.00 to do all windows ( film on inside ). Does this sound like a good deal ? Claims that it's guaranteed for as long as I own car.

Thanks,
Joe

First - I would replace the windshield. They tried that repair on my daughter's car.
Worst repair I've ever seen.
Second - $200.00 for all windows seem like a high price. The film starts to peel and
crack. Think about having the windows dipped. Makes for a cleaner job and
should come with a warranty.

Just my 2 pennies.

Peel and crack? Maybe if there is a bad install or inferior film used. I had the windows in my 924 done years ago. Rear glass similar to a 64-66 Barracuda, and I had NO issues with it at all, bubbles, cracks, or peeling. Glass in my truck is done, as is my S-197. No issues with them either.

(your results may vary)

$200 sounds about right too. You might get it cheaper if you bring the windows in while they are out of the car.

Actually the guy gave me a price of 185.00, I just rounded it up. And he said he'd rather do them in the car so who ever puts the glass back in don't scratch them ( that would be ME )............I thought he had a good point.

Did you / would you have yours done? I don't want to take anything away from the car, just thought it may look good. :edgy:

Personally no I wouldn't tint my car but that's just me and my particular car. I like most everything somewhat period correct looking on my 64 and not modernized I guess. But hey I bet some cars would look good as long as it's not too dark.

I had a star repaired, and the spot was a little blurry. But it was so small no one ever noticed. And the price on the tint seems reasonable to me. I've had all my everyday drivers tinted for the last 18 years with film tint, and have never had a problem. Never......
