wing car wheels?

hello b-body forum, i would really appreciate it if a more experienced mopar enthusiast could help me identify my abnormally wide steel wheels. the wheels are 8 inches wide inside the bead and the guy i bought them from said they were speed rated, which wasn't really the selling point to me. the selling point was the nearly perfect condition ?red circle? dog dishes that came with them. just the dishes for that price seemed like a great deal to me and the road worthy steelies were just what i needed to get my 68 plymouth RR custom/clone on the road. so i purchased the wheels and dishes for $200 without even noticing that the wheels were wider than any other set of steelies id seen before. so i asked around and one answer was ?ford wheels? which the very clearly stamped pentastars disproved. a more believable explanation was police car or wing car wheels. any input would be much appreciated

Ramcharger maybe? are they 14" or 15"? Dated?

If 15" then most likely a mid 70's Ramcharger SUV wheel.

They are not period correct wheels for a late 60s early 70s car as the widest steel wheels of that time were 6" on B bodies and 7" on Imperials. They are either Ram Charger wheels or someone has widened them. The widest wheel a wing car would have had from the factory in a painted steel wheel would be 6" and then only if a Hemi car.

Thanks guys, they are 15’s. I had started to lean towards “wing car wheels” because the only other place ive seen a set that looked like that was on a few superbird and daytona race cars ive seen in HMM. i guess “race car wheels” may have been a more accurate title since i haven't seen that wheel on any street cars. i will definitely look into the strong possibility that they are ramcharger wheels. a strong wide wheel would make sense for a 4X4. I would be tempted to put those wide steelies on my 74 trailduster if the previous owner had not put a 73 blazer front axle on it.

thanks for the link. those are cool wheels but they are different than mine. the ones i have are styled like the plain steel wheels that came on 60’s cars. the ones on that truck look like an imitation of ‘ansen sprints” or “slotted mags”

The wing car wheels you refer to are actually 9 inches wide and are custom made and welded together with 2 centers welded in. they also have a 5 on 5 bolt pattern.. Made by hollowman and moody.

thanks grancuda but they dont seem to have the same offset as mine, they dont look as wide either. maybe its just the hubcaps on the truck. but i doubt a set of truck wheels would be speed rated.

again guys just to clarify my wheels are 9 inches wide total width and 8 inches wide to the inside bead. and they certainly haven't been widened unless the welder was an absolute master. all the seams are too perfect.

Ramcharger wheels were 15x8 inside bead to inside bead. Not sure what your meaning about speed rated. I would say you have RamCharger Wheels.

Thanks grancuda, thats the most convincing pic yet. It really does show the depth. Speed ratings are a letter based tire speed safety rating chart that im not entirely familiar with. i have heard that certain wheels are rated with this same chart and was told that mine are as well.

Youv mean Holman and Moody? They were Ford guys and if they made something like that it likely would have been for a Ford NASCAR. Ford wheels have the same bolt pattern as Mopar but the register hole is smaller and won't seat on a Mopar.

Tires are speed rated NOT wheels.

How about posting a clear, close up photo of the actual wheel in question, with written out stampings from the valve area??
