winter weather , so freaking tired of it already !!

I bet that bee was at least 5K out the door at the dealership! it sounds okay considering bank rates at that time were 20%!

I'm not too far from Wayne maybe 30miles as the crow flies! I think were up to 15' total snowfall, lucky part if there is one, temps have been consistently cold since December and the snow that fell was powder, which is easier to move and less weight on roofs!
I think were going to get above freezing today currently 29 which will be the first time since christmas it seems! We havn't had snow for 4 days probably the longest stretch since dec. Was so nice out on friday thought I might leave it

out! one pic. of Bella on her way home when she had a training bra under the hood!

My Super Bee, he sold it to me in '79 for $3600 @ 10% interest over 3 years. Damn good deal seeing the bugger only paid $3200 for it in '69!

Apparently, he wanted to get back all the interest money he paid when he originally financed it.

I need a bigger snow blower !!

I won't be getting to tap my maple trees until some of this dissappears ,it's up to my crotch back there !! ( gonna freeze my balls off, literally ! )

Aren’t you a true Canadian? Get some hand warmers and position them correctly and you should be fine. Have to improvise! ( think outside the box) think of the poor souls that don’t have an opportunity to harvest their own syrup. All in jest.

LOL, "nice modern machinery". A $1500 dollar, 1998, plow truck and a 1976 Backhoe that decides when it wants to work...

Oh, and I forgot my 1965 Zetor tractor.. the blower is somewhere in the back 20...
At least it's machinery, tractor, old or not
not 'manual by shovel' or a walk behind blower, :BangHead:
you'd be worn out
or have a coronary
allegedly many people over 65/70 or Seniors (& out of shape, pick the age),
that live in snow areas/snow climates, snow countries
Have a much higher percentage of dying, (like 50% higher)
dealing with snow removal, with far less driveways/roads than that...

sorry :soapbox:
just a lil' dity/knowledge I picked up at the ER,
last time my dad was in there

another more personal deal
years ago (like 26) when he was in better shape he was like 62
he got trapped by his snow blower,
it was a gas powered walk behind, like 24" wide (better than a shovel) on rubber tracks,
clearing the driveway & in front of the carport I built him...
Some how I don't exactly know how,
he slipped & it pinned him to the 4' high snow bank, still running,
his legs under part of it...
I just so happened to be going up there, 120 miles from down in the valley
where I was living in Rancho Murieta & saw him, 1/2 froze & hypothermic...
I turned it off, gave him a good wool blanket, my dog sits on in the back seal of the truck
& a big jacket & I got him out, after some careful digging, Sierra Cement/Packed snow...
Then I drove him some 25 miles back down the hill to the ER in Sonora, he survived...
freaken' snow

He's right though , first time in my life I wore snowshoes was last week to inspect the resort! those aluminium frame shoes must be easier to walk on than the old wooden ones, but the small frame isn't very good at holding you on top of the snow, there not much bigger than my winter boots, which my wife calls snow shoes there so big! I saw a black squirrel in a tree the other day and was thinking not much food available, then realized he was food when a monster of an owl came and took him to his final destination!

WARNING! This is about snowshoes. I grew up using the old wooden snowshoes, 2 styles for the bush and another for open land. The Objibway (sp) were for travelling in more open spaces, long with a pointed front that curved upward. A neighbour used to travel 25 miles in the early to mid 1900’s to pick up mail for the neighbours. 2 day trip return.
Bear paw were used in heavy bush and soft snow, so you could manoeuvre amongst thick forest and deep soft snow.
The other style were similar to the bear paw, but had a tail. First ones I used as a child were indigenous made, sinew and the wood frame.
Trappers could get a government lease for a trap line. Sam was 6’5” tall weighed about 250lbs. He managed to purchase another trap line. That year he had shot a moose in the fall for his winter meat. He back packed the moose across country in pieces and all his possessions through the bush to his new location. It was about 20 some miles, each way. My father and 2 friends purchased the cook shack and a couple of buildings from the owner who had the lumber rights for logging, but were moving on to another lease. This was in 1961. They would drive to the roads end unload the Bombardier and use the old lumber road for another 23 miles to haul in supplies for a 2-3 week stay. Sam came to visit and became friends. By 1963 an actual road was built, for more lumbering, it went past the moose shack. But it was 85 miles to get there. That is when I met Sam. He kind of took me under wing, in 1964. Fantastic gentleman, but had a bad experience with a woman earlier on and was a real recluse. We used to lift the back of the sleds at night up so the tracks wouldn’t freeze. Sam could would pick Dad’s twin track SkiDoo with one hand, reach out, grab the starter rope and start it with the other hand and get it running.
The cabin could sleep 8 easily. Fond memories. First year I was there, after high school some of their friends would come to the cabin just for a few days. We didn’t see anyone else. 1966 everyone got a moose. Got married in 1969, hunted there for 2 days with my brother=in-law.
In 1981 a forest fire took out the moose shack, don’t know when hunting became good again. We had moved so didn’t go back except to show my wife were it was in the summer. It was a 200 mile trip to the farm. They had built a road from the South so it was only 50 miles. Sam also was a fire tower spotter. This was in 1974. Had a nice visit! He passed away years ago, dad had Sam’s snowshoes, which I have hanging in the garage. I am thinking of donating them to the local museum. I am sure none is aware.
Hope this isn’t too boring.

I think Mr. Regan had a little sled to pull. I just might have to check the history books. Unfortunately I think my hunting days are over, just can’t see myself to get a permit to shoot from a vehicle. Then would be unable to dress it etc.
I did have a great life growing up and being able to do those things.
Grand kids have no interest in that activity.
