This is not quite a project in my hands yet but may be next week and wandered if I could get an opinion on what the car is worth. Haven't seen the car for a few months but it has been in storage by a friend of mine, the present owner. Don't have pics to post yet but will on Monday. Details:
Very original 1970 Plymouth Roadrunner RM23 FE5 Rallye Red paint, which it still wears.
Good running #'s matching 383HP.
727 Bench Seat Column AT. Tranny needs attention. Will pull the car after some hesitation.
3.23 SG 8 3/4 rear that is in good shape.
Black decor Interior that only needs a headliner which comes with sale.
Very nice rails no other rust except, body needs quarters. Full AMD's come with the sale.
Original fender tag and broadcast sheet.
Original 14" road wheels. No PS or PB.

In a nutshell. New full quarters, paint, rechromed bumpers, some tranny work, headliner and she would be good to go. Car is missing nothing part wise.

Thanks !!

From what you describe it certainly sounds like a car worth getting & doing, for sure.

It would be a great car to do and I like the red & black aspect. It would also fit in with my other original cars while trying to keep as much of the original parts as possible. Fix the transmission and drive while I work on it too. It is pretty plain Jane compared to my 6 barrel car however, which is what made me wonder what to pay for the car. I was thinking somewhere in the 10-15k range with the AMD quarters & headliner kit going with it.

Was looking for a 69 but this one popped up.

I didn't like the 70 roadrunner at first but it grew on me over the years. 12-15k could be in my wheel house for sure. Is a coupe or hardtop? Coupes are cool imo....

I love 70 Plymouths. They are not only the handsomest of 68-70 Plymouths, they are the least common. RRs & GTXs
Sounds like a great project, just remember that there are ALWAYS unforseen gremlins that arise.
By description it sounds as though it will take 15k plus time and labor to finish
I would add 25% to that.
Still sounds like a worthwhile

I would do everything but the paint myself. I couldn't do the car justice. It being so original and a very desirable color it should have a nice paint job done on it.

Nice looking car when done! Hell probably a nice looking driver the way it is! Any pics of it?

I'll be able to post pics tomorrow afternoon. Going to were it is stored to further check the car out then.

One way to look at it is what's the car worth when it's redone, subtract the cost of getting it redone, that's how much you should pay. So a 70 RR, 383, auto bench seat totally redone is worth in the $30-35k range. Work back from there. Given your description, even with you doing the work except paint, $10-15k.

It's an RM23 Hardtop. Roll down rear side windows.

Ops, didn't snap to the first 4 of the VIN......you would think I'd know that since I owned an RM21 roadrunner in the early 80's....

No problem. I've had both over the years. In 70 they made quite a bit fewer of the post cars than hard tops. My 6bbl car is a hardtop as well.

Sorry no pics yet but I did get some very good news from the person the present owner purchased the car from. He did allot of work to the car.
Totally rebuilt the motor. Very few miles on it.
New master cylinder with new brakes and lines all over.
Rebuilt tranny with new torque converter. Does still need attention.
Recored radiator.
Legendary seat covers front. Back are still good.
New carpet.
Rebuilt instrument cluster.
New dual exhaust.

Pics by this Saturday. Got the car running last night. Great oil pressure with no funny noises. Car will move but hesitates for about 15 secs before moving. Does this with cold or warm tranny oil.

Finally some pictures.

check it thoroughly for hidden rust

good luck & have fun

Got her home a few days ago. I think this will be a real good project. Thanks very much for the feedback.
