those javelin hoods arent too hard to come by........... id scrap that pos without a second thought

My wife's Gemlin, and my Hornet SC/360[uber rare]. I sold the Hornet when it was 90% restored. It's the one that was in all the magazines when finished. I tried about 10 years ago, to be an AMC guy. They're weirder than mopar guys....by a bunch. LOL

This is the last one that I worked on. My son and I had a custom shop, he did the artwork. It was featured on a local news channel at the owners shop in Baltimore. He became a little disturbed when the news crew wouldn't come away from the car and show the rest of his shop. They were blown away with the artwork!

Love those Hornets! Back in High School (79-83) we gave AMC cars NO respect! Kids who drove them we laughed at, we were just kids!

Really, Javelin Hoods are in good supply? Well, owner brought me this to render a repair, so, that decision making process is on in my lane! That's good they're available!

I've looked for Javelins and Javelin parts for a few years, haven't noticed many hoods. You can get fiberglass AMX hoods that fit but look different. I think you'll have to work with what you've got.

Started my career in the auto business with AMC in January of 1972. We had an amx lab car 401 4speed. The fuels and Lube lab next to us had a rebel machine they used for axle testing. AMC was a great place to work less people and more hands on work. You could even bring your AMC car in after work and work on it. Good to see the cars being restored.

Black64, AMC has some cool engineering: The rear seat Qtr Panel area, where the rear seat window goes that entire webbing assy comes out, allowing full access to the Qtr Panel. The Front Fender gutter area appears to be some 'structure' like today's cars have the main beam up under the Fender on top, seems like some very fwd thinking on AMC's part! Flush mounted Door handles, extensive use of Galvanized metal in a lot of underside structure; seemingly more than MOPAR and Ford used!

I just finished the Body today, will post pics of it in its bare glore tomorrow and laying some Epoxy primer down too.

When the Javelin came out for 1968, I thought it was the coolest looking pony car on the market. Wish we still had ours...

Back in the day a buddy had a Gremlin with a 401 in it. Man that thing was wicked fast. I always thought those were cool cars. I do see Javelins in the yards every so often.
AMC's are in most every Mopar show in the country. Considered Mopar's little basterd stepchild.

Lol, Yes but were,,, are cool machines and a lot of them were wicked fast! I always thought they were pretty cool cars back in the day...

Not to drag up the past needlessly, but I was wondering what happened with this Javelin project?

Hey, I just saw the post. I drove more than few Amc's, and Ramblers prior to that. The AMC was a joint company with Body by Fischer, suspension and differential by Ford, and Mopar transmissions. The engines were Ramblers. Then, Around 1967, The big three were sued by the fed, and were told if they didn't combine to support AMC, there would be hell to pay. The big three had previously conspired to bankrupt Rambler. I rented a new 1970 Rebel hardtop while stationed at Wichita falls AFB in 1970. I loved the car, and have been looking for one ever since, to no avail.

I worked at the toledo jeep assembly plant from 76 until I retired in 08. There were always rumors that we were closing the doors. In about 1986 or 87 Lee Iacoca was in a tv comercial and said " If you can find a better car, buy it" . Just a few months later chrysler bought AMC . So the question is, did he take his own advice?

love em! here is my ex-amx........ had to sell it a few years back when money got tight.......but i have another one to replace it with...... even found another crossram.......also have a RWB Rebel Machine project
