working on 71 superbee.

wow lots of work done ,starting to look like a car again . really coming along :)
keep up the good work

sorry no help on the wheel wells, think they sealed it after assembly

Hmm i used the chrome tip pen from ebay for the edges otherwise if i had to spray paint that it would of been a disaster.

i made my own lenses from plastic at home depot with a dremel and dremel stand. took me about 20 times before i got them to all fit. theyre rough around but you cant see the rough edges.

i took apart the speedo gauge and applied decals on the tripometer and all the gauge faces

i spray painted the wood grain with flat black matte paint

i re-applied new gaskets and reused a few that werent included

i used red ink kinda like nail polish to paint the needles flourescent red

as for the dash cap i used plastic welder with fiberglass rods and then dash pad filler on top of that. im still not finished work in progress.

if you need help with the items i can try to locate them if your looking for the gaskets or decals. if you need some details for any of the steps let me know.

i did a bunch of research

here is the cluster

last night till 5am we finally got the other fender on and fitted the fenders and hood

seems to line up properly. was afraid these after market inner fenders would be off.

i decided to order full quarters instead of the partial hand formed quarters. AMD finally received stock. was afraid there would be tons of warping and body work if i used the hand formed panels.

front is about 95% completed then onto the back.

Anyone know what size bolts are used for hinges to inner fender?

3/8" x 1 1/2" Dogpoint, well maybe 1 1/4", I would have to double check on that now that I think about it.

can anyone tell me if the inner fender to firewall brace is supposed to have a space between the inner fender and the brace at the bottom? if i move the brace down the hole in the brace will be partially covered by the frame rail. not sure if i need to modify it and rebend it at the proper place or there should be a gap or its ok if part of the hole is covered?

The challenger rockers are shaped similar but are totally different. They are shorter, and smaller overall. I already researched this for my 73 charger. I did what you did just used the patch style ones and sectioned it in.

thx for the info. were the front and rear of your rockers rotted also?

the issue is in the window chamber how to seal in there when wheel wells are back on
Wow! Awesome project, progress looks good.

Are you asking about the quarter window area behind the door jamb and in front of the wheel well? I coated everything on mine with rust bullet and then 3M seam sealer on the factory joints and weld beads I made on the rockers and outer wheel houses. I am also doing a partial quarter replacement, butt welded. I plan on going over the inside of the quarter weld seam with seam sealer, just rub it on with my finger as far back as I can get with my fat arm lol. But first, find and weld pin holes. Lights off in garage, put a light inside the trunk to see and mark them.

Also, on my previous project I used All Metal filler over all weld seams and joints before final coating with regular filler. No issues with pop out or cracking. This stuff it suppose to be pretty tough.

I decided to buy the full quarters i guess i will keep the partial quarters i took off if i find another project car. i coated inside the window area with Por 15 silver i guess similar to rust bullet

should i seam seal inside the window channel as well everywhere possible? how do you seam seal the rockers? not clear on that part. any picture?

also i was test fitting the bumper and was going over the service manual as well. looks like the front should have 2 impact pads part of the fender. looks like my car didnt have them. did they come with all 3rd gen chargers? im guessing its similar or possibly same as the attached picture. any advice?

thx

I put seam sealer on the welds I made in the inner rockers and where the rocker meets the wheel housing. Not a big deal as there are weep holes in the rockers to drain water. And the waves you see in the lower quarter flange is a feature as it allows water to exit out the flange.

POR is the same type of stuff and can actually fill some pin holes.
