I was literally going to respond saying this. People somehow think that cars frame rails were as strong and rust free as it was FIFTY PLUS years ago...

Not knowing what the frame looks like back there. I agree. It’s going to cost at least 10k for paint. Let’s say, a fair price for the car ends up being 20k. There’s 30-35 right there. Having done nothing to the damage. I see a complete repair of at least 50-60 k. Not worth it in my eyes. Not when you can buy a nice restored one. Starting at that price. You would have to get the car at 10 grand for it to be worth while. That’s not going to happen.

My opinion. The car is worth buying for 15k with only intentions of possibly making several grand or using those parts for another restoration. You could sell any remaining parts and it might pay for 3/4 of what you payed for this car. If someone could fetch it for that price it’s worth it. The engine is worth 5 to 6 grand to the right person looking for one. Seats are worth a couple grand, same scenario. It’s not worth buying to completely restore in my opinion. Considering all cost. Unless, your one of those guys. That wants to slowly put over 60k into the car as you obtain more money to restore the car for yourself only. Over a long period of time. The longer it takes to rebuild, more it will cost in the long run. So, to take that approach compared to buying a good condition car needing very little. It doesn’t makes a lot of sense. I believe in saving or spending to get a good restored car. Needing very little. But, expecting very small repairs or maintenance right away. This approach usually saves money. Depends on what people are willing to do or wanting to do with the car too. People look at scenarios differently, depending on their intentions.

I see the car to me as time on the frame machine to straighten out everything that matters- Straighten not to repair what you see in the pics, but straighten to pull any secondary damage into shape using the destroyed parts as pulling points. Sort of un-wrinkling whats there before cutting it off to replace. This guarantees a straight car to work with assuming proper measuring etc. Looks to me like the passenger door is ajar and the drivers door has a damaged jamb. Passenger sail panel is cracked indicating a little movement.

From there is cutting and replacing the back end as needed, going in as far as needed.

As long as this car isnt already patched/botched I'd rather replace the back end on this wreck than a rust bucket. The rest of this car is pretty nice. - Frame machine and replace/paint. If you have access to a frame machine and can do the work i bet it would take time and 5-6k in parts/material

This will get fixed, people are restoring cars that were parted out in the 80's/90's and left in a swamp.

I bet it goes over 20k!

Honstly - no frame machine needed I would bet - worst case there is some wrinkles down there... replace the entire trunk floor, replace the frame rail, replace quarter, tail panel and you'll be 90% fixed... trunklid looks fine, opposite quarter looks fine... I dont see $60K in repairs there... car will most likely go very high

I could agree with this. Chop off whats not good and replace. Just like a rust job but without the rust!

After that damage that's exactly what I'd do and go from there.

I would still put it on a frame machine. It would suck to weld new metal to a car that was tweaked. A good frame pull and this would be an excellent candidate to put back on the road.

Anytime the integrity of a car is compromised it needs to go on a frame machine. I have seen to many cars with new metal just welded in that look great but crawfish down the road. Like another person posted put it on the frame machine and pull it with the damaged metal. Once the car is square and measurements are correct, then replace needed metal.
There are a lot of opinions as to the damage on this car, but until it has actually been looked at in person by a qualified technician we are all just guessing.

Well who ever buys it would be smart to buy this as well. Might be the only thing you get cheap. $1000 CDN for a frame machine..
