I have had it with Year Ones over inflated prices and ridiculous shipping costs. Fortunately, I bought most of my stuff on 30% discount and in bulk orders so shipping was reasonable. However, today, I needed to order 4 more seat track nuts, cost was 5.09 a piece, way too high they used to be under 4 bucks, so I added them to my cart applied the 20 percent discount, and then the shipping cost of 14 bucks appeared. All total it would have been 40 bucks for 4 nuts! Not worth it.

I ended up getting a set from mega parts, 8 in a set, for 14.99 plus 3.92 in shipping. Now that's more like it.

Year One, get your head out of your arse, fix this!!! And while you are at it, quit sending crap through UPS with transfer to USPS and delay delivery an extra day, its just stupid!!!!

You should've called them. I've had them send additional items to me no charge before.

Part of the "shipping" costs are in the actual packaging. It takes a paid employee to gather the parts, select a package, properly address it and set it out for the actual shipper. This costs money to do.
I'll agree that their shipping charges are high though.

That's outrageous for sure, but I do like there return policy. Mega Parts is a great source for repop parts, and I use them often!

It's one thing to throw something into a crappy old box with news paper, but when a company has to pay a shipping clerk and buy packaging supplies things sort of add up. But on the other hand a company will get a better rate based on how much they ship, so what seems normal to you standing at the UPS or FedEX counter can be 30% higher than what Year One pays. I get 35% off the counter rate for my FedEx shipments and I'm not a huge volume shipper. So for a box that costs about $1.00 or less to ship 4 nuts and the clerks time to pack them, $15.00 still seems a bit excessive.

...or go to the JY and get some from a 5th Ave, and have OEM parts.

For that matter a padded envelope and send it usps 3.58. But 5 bucks a nut? Can you say 1000% mark up!

I ship everyday... You get free supplies from the shipper of your choice... only thing you pay for is packing material and that stuff is cheap in bulk. I use flat rate envelopes and boxes. Sounds like they make money from shipping ... even if its 1% of the shipping charge... thats a lot of money over time.

I would have used a flat rate envelope at a cost of 5.05 to the buyer. its easier for than using a real postal scale and post machine.

Costs of handling are usually rolled in with other overhead costs (electricity, water, rent, etc.) in a company's Cost of Doing Business (CODB) calculations, so most handling charges are bogus charges since those costs are usually factored into the purchase price. I'm sure any shipping employee at a major shipper like Y1 would love "handling" charges to be used to pay them. They would be making $50 or so an hour. :)

And yes, Y1 is making money off their shipping and handling charges, which is why they can keep offering those discount specials. If they weren't making money off this strategy, they wouldn't still be using it.

Sounds like Kevin King is looking to do another high dollar build and those that order from Y1 are gonna pay for it, lol!!!!

Makes you wonder how places like Summit can offer free shipping on $100+ orders and reasonable shipping rates for under a C note. It's not like their stuff is outrageously expensive. Just sayin'.

:iamwithstupid: It seems to me, that Year One has had very high shipping rates "for ever", they should have just shipped/mailed it USPS, would have been like "a dollar" or maybe $2, not very smart or good customer service or pricing practices or creative shipping dept., IMHFO, it's going to be driving customers away... I only use Y1 now only if, "I can't find the part somewhere else" anymore... I use to buy allot of product from them, but lately "they are getting way too damn greedy/pricey, for my wallet", these days... And I'm usually not the A-typical price shopper, as long as the product is Made in the USA & of good quality... I'm willing to pay more, to support American companies... But I'm not willing to be ripped off either...

Because they charge a handling fee on everything else... But they get great rates from UPS and Fedex

I think Y-1 owns stock in UPS.

Do you think it would help if we all sent YO an email telling them how unhappy we are about their shipping and pricing would help? Maybe someone (not me because I'm not good at it) could write a letter that we could all download and send to YO. They have to know it is hurting them as a supplier and us as consumers, but maybe they don't care. If they priced their shipping right I'm sure their business would grow by leaps and bounds. I don't, like most order from them because I can't afford them. That's my rant for today about YO.

They used to be awesome. I bought tons of stuff from them in the late 80's, early 90's. I wouldn't use them at all now. I guess they don't have anything to sell anymore so the jacked their prices out of site.

When I was rebuilding car I bought a lot of stuff from them there good at what they do but I stopped buying from them because of shipping costs
