Be very aware that your phone is always listening ....even when not supposedly active.

I recently searched and eventually ordered a pair of slip-on shoes for myself....based on recommendations by a good friend here, and others who have tried them. That's OK...I expect to see the adverts come in following that , and for similar shoes that I might be coerced into buying.

But what shocked me this morning was the advert suggesting I might like some black Sharpie pens. Now, I have never searched up Sharpie pens online, because I buy them direct from my supplier locally. However, my friend who helped me on a job on Sunday morning did ask me for a pen to do a quick sketch.

All I had on my toolbelt was a builder's pencil and a retractable Sharpie. So we used the pencil to do a sketch on a cupboard door. As he grabbed it from me he said he had never seen a retractable Sharpie before. I told him I always try and buy those, as they are more convenient - lid doesn't go missing and stuff.

That was the only mention in months of the word Sharpie.

Look at me feed this morning.....

My phone was in my pocket at the time....in sleep mode.

Cell phones have been doing that for a long time now.

Also suspicious is my iPhone showing me I have a new picture folder of “pet friends”.

Shows me they are using AI to remotely go through my cell looking at what I have/think and am in contact with.

I routinely shut the microphone off on my phone - Samsung S22,
however the Mrs. S23 must not. We were discussing getting her a new laptop, specifically an Hp.
Neither of us researched them on our phones, but lo and behold 30 minutes later she was seeing all kinds of ads for Hp laptops showing up on her Farcebook.
They are always listening.

You're not imagining this. Here's my story, from about 2 years ago. I posted this on another forum:

"On the drive to work this morning, the radio station DJ's were talking about a new PF Chang's restaurant franchise opening soon in their neighborhood. The conversation turned to what building the franchise would be located at, and closed buildings at that neighborhood. The talk went on to reminisce about a now-closed Red Robin restaurant, the DJ's talked about memories of that Red Robin for the next 10 minutes.

Not even 2 hours later, I'm browsing RC10Talk.com (a forum for vintage RC cars) as I always do, and an ad appeared for Red Robin, of all things." My phone was listening to the radio, FFS.

I was on my phone, here on Fbbo, and I was wearing an American Powertrain shirt, when all these ads from American Powertrain started popping up on my phone. I never searched their site or purchased anything from them, my friend gave me the shirt. I think they are watching through the phone cameras too. Like a selfie you didn't authorize!

Most Smart TV's have integrated webcams that listen and watch, so be sure to go into your TV settings and disable voice activation and anything else that looks similar to it. If we're that lazy that we need TV's that can respond to voice commands (as if the remote wasn't lazy enough), we deserve to be spied on.

There's a reason these services (facebook, google, alexa, amazon) are "free" - it's because YOU are the product.

The closest thing I have to a "connected" appliance is a wifi thermostat. But I've turned off all the "follow me" features, so if it got hacked, nobody would know if rooms were "occupied" or "vacant".

No Alexa.
No Siri.

I'm sure my phone still snoops...but whatever.

I have Alexa, she and Siri may be listening to us along with my phone, but nothing is hooked to my home, including a wireless wifi security system and garage door opener. My electric company begs me monthly to take their free nest thermostat, not interested. Of course they have the ability to turn off my whole house, but I don't need them, not allowing me to direct the temperature of my house solely. We have cameras that watch us continuously and more being installed daily. By the time all this collected information can be used against me, we will already be to the point that we're blowing each other away on their judgement day. If they know everything I've done, it would make a great movie and I might be so far back in a cell, they'd be bring me light in a Kroger bag. I don't run the show, I just run around in it and I find it entertaining. Fear doesn't give diarrhea, bad food will though. I'm 68 years old and I've had a run some could only dream of, so, F**k them!! Oh yeah, by the way, they're watching us right now......................... Testing, one, two, three... LOL
