My Rust Valley Restorers story.

Mike's a good guy. He doesn't really play a "charactor". I dealt with him and Sarah selling them parts and they were both absolutely great. I have other friends that know him much better than I and they all have a good opinion of him. I think he earned his money the old way by actually working with his hands and not his mouth and I seen him on a road job this spring as a matter of fact.
Any drama on the show was concocted by others, not him, much more fun to watch than the guy in Oregon. I don't know Avery so I don't know if he's as annoying in real life or not.

Here's Mike with his Rasta Blasta hard hat, from an episode (before he had his own show) of Highway Thru Hell, where he was called in as a demolition expert to clear a slide.

Mike was collecting cars in Kamloops when I met him 40 years ago and the city gave him a hard time
then he moved and collected more
They are paid to do dumb things and when they break stuff they always have a spare lined up

Wasn't Mike's character he plays on Rust Valley Restorers
allegedly once a firefighter up there somewhere ?
He appeared on a rescue program once - he is actually a qualified explosives expert and had contracts to build the clearings for the Canadian railway and highway routes. Made a few dollars with those nice Govt contracts.

That Avery & his annoying laugh, is only tolerable for a couple times
sorry not trying to belittle the guy/s, just an observation of a TV show
Oh he's annoying alright eh.

That laugh and his propensity for breaking **** gets up my nose.

Mike does indeed seem like a genuine guy, and someone you could have a serious car conversation with. The premise of his show was to build cars that the average guy could afford - hence they are not turning out trailer queens....which is why I don't upset by little details that are a bit rough. On the whole most cars would be a great addition to any collection.

The production crew is what made the show a bit screwy.....out of sequence shots and scenarios. Overuse of aerial drone shots shown over and over.
Cars that look interesting but don't appear on screen are in the background at different times....white GTX looked nice in one show....nothing mentioned about it.

Most of the cars they redid and sold sure must of been a hell of a loss to him and his business. Nobody can put a motor, tranny and front end with all new brakes plus a rear end upgrade and body and paint for $40 grand. Plus full interior. Not gonna happen up here for sure. Kim

Staged….
Those shows are REAL, man!

There was a show called Desert Car Kings about 10 years ago. It featured a classic “recycle” yard in Arizona north of Phoenix. One episode had them fixing up a 64-66 Barracuda and talking about how expensive the rear windows are.
They pulled the window out and had it leaned up against something, then it fell and broke. It was totally staged to build drama for the build.
Some of these shows have people that actually can act and play the part well. DCK had guys that may have been great junkyard workers but they were hard to watch.
I saw that episode.....didn't watch much of the series....it all seemed a bit far-fetched to me.
