Your view on police chases.

My daughters 2010 Hyundai Tuscon was stollen last week. It was dumped about 2-miles from home. I guess they didn't want to put gas in it as the tank was on empty when it was parked. Or maybe because the radio is broken too? Anyhow, I was speaking to the neighbors to see if they had any video from door bell cameras, but nothing useful.
The next day the neighbor came over and told me there is an unknown vehicle in front of his house. It was another stolen Hyundai Tuscon, but a newer model. We think the guy dumped the newer silver Tuscon and then stole my daughters Black Tuscon. Not sure how much it will cost to repair. They broke the tilt lever which is around $50. Not sure if I will replace the ignition key, might just let my daughter start it with the usb end :) I mean the car is not worth much as it has plenty of dings, dents, broken windshield, needs aligned, and has almost 200,000 miles on it. I did spend a few bucks on a steering wheel "club" device.

My view is that if these car chases were not shared to TV networks or social media, the following and interest in offenders doing such acts would soon dwindle.

These idiots only get involved in a car chase for the notoriety and the glory of the chase. I have zero sympathy for any person actively running from a pursuing police car.

Another thing that has changed things is social media, both for posting pictures and video, and for posting opinions.
I won’t mention names or ethnicity for fear of retribution, but look at the cases that have started riots and unrest. An idiot tries passing a bogus cheque while visibly inebriated. The police show up and he is choked to death on camera. Now choking him to death was wrong, but he wasn’t sitting quietly on the curb reading the bible. He was committing a crime and resisting. In my checkered past there was one unbreakable rule: “when the man with the gun says stop, you stop.” I’m alive, he isn’t.
Another idiot steals from a small mom and pop grocery store because he knows nothing will happen. He is shot and killed. Wrong reaction? Doesn’t matter. Blatantly breaking the law law and being a douchebag dramatically increases your chances of being shot. Yet thanks to social media there were riots and mayhem over two pieces of garbage that society is better for the loss of.

A personal experience of cops generating income. Going through a tiny town in eastern Colorado I got a speeding ticket. I knew I wasn't speeding so as a matter of principle I drove the 75 miles out to the little town to contest it. They know 99% of people aren't going to do this. I said I would plead guilty to a non-moving violation to keep it off my insurance. They were happy to give me a broken tail light charge for $150.
