Notice the bumper is pulled forward at the bottom.
They measured the car down the middle front to rear, with the template.
So, this car passed! Zoom in on the bumper! Easy to see.

More air over the car equals better performance.

Running the dual exhausts out the center rear of the car to overheat a drafting car was rather slick.
Which Nascar quickly outlawed.
Jr. Johnson did this on the #98 Ford in 69. Yes, it got outlawed.

Maybe then I have them mixed up?
I was certain it was a Ford.
It was Junior's #98 with Leeroy Yarbrough driving at the 69 Daytona 500. Ran one race then outlawed, both exhausts had to dump out the side. Around 72 the Petty's started running both exhausts out the left side, maybe to make it a bit quieter for the fans? I remember the car sounded really weird when qualifying at Martinsville with that set-up.

The 43 started using the 2 dumps on the left side for Maurice to hear the engine better when it drove by.

I always felt Maurice never got his due from the sport.
I got to see him in action in the pits for nearly decade at Daytona.
