I remember the shoe repair shop at the mall.
The smell of leather was wonderful and you could watch him repair shoes.
And adding "taps" to extend the heal life was just cool for a kid.

I replaced the timer module on my Speed Queen washing machine this past winter. It is from 2008. I had to wait for it to be made on back order, but I did manage to find a place that sold the part.
I despise electronics on my appliances. I will repair my old stuff until I can't anymore, regardless of cost. The old stuff was built better, period.

I have an LG plasma TV. It is the very first 1080p they made. I had wierd lines show up on the screen. Took it to a local repair place. They are the last place within 150 miles of me. Diagnosed it, can't fix, the driver board is not available. I am going to pick it up tomorrow. I see a few used boards on ebay for $15. I will do it myself.

I teach my son how to do things. My daughter is dating a young man that is a mechanic and is not afraid to jump into most anything like that. So I think my kids will be ok too. But the rest of the world might not offer them anything to fix, if things keep going how they are. It s a shame.

My 5 year old refrigerator stopped cooling the upper fridge section, while the freezer still worked fine. YouTube explained that the controller board stopped doing its auto-defrost cycle. Searched for parts and found a $27 controller board. Popped it in and now 3 years later, it’s still working fine. While I have done similar diagnostics and repairs the old fashioned way, YouTube sure makes it easier.

That... is the problem. I can't tell you how many times I've repaired our appliances over the past number of years, and a common theme is the control board. I once ordered 2 boards for our dishwasher, when my wife asked why, I said, for this time and the next.

I'm 43 and I remember the shoe repair in the mall, prob been 20 years since one has been there.
