My 72 had a similar problem after its trans was rebuilt. I believe they put in the wrong rooster tail for the neutral safety when they changed the valve body (just a guess). It cranks on neutral and park however. I ended up putting micorswitch on the B&M shifter for reverse, and now it has lights.
Yeah this car has a lot of random mismatched parts and short cuts from the previous owner. Luckily they do have the correct Edelbrock throttle shaft lever, part 1481. I think I'm just going to get a bouchillon cable, and call it a day given the hobbled together parts.
Thank you for all the advice. I got the manual and will be going through it....although, going back to my FSM, I believe the car came with the wrong kickdown linkage rod. Mine appears to be for a big block. That and the spring would explain a lot I believe.
Two pictures below. The first is the...
Ok got it, thanks for the info everyone. I hope this fixes my trans issues. Been a PITA.
I have a Edelbrock carb and stock kickdown linkage..only kickdown linkage for a 727 340 I found was this on year one, also got a new throttle spring.
I've been having issues with my rebuilt 727 for a 340. It shifts from 1-2 at 20mph, and 2-3 at 50+ after I lift my foot off pedal. Also, sometimes it won't downshift to 1st gear at a stop.
Tranny shop that rebuilt the 727 says it's likely a dirty governor issue. However, I just noticed the...
This has happened to me a couple time. Once a fuse, parking lights and dash are connected. The second was a bad connection I back of fuse box under dash. I'd suggest checking the fuse then seeing if the wire to the back of the fuse box is loose.
Hey everyone, rookie question. I lowered the valve body to replace the shaft selector seal and noticed this in the drain pan....did this come out of the trans? It's a circular spring. Thanks in advance.
To be honest, nothing is wrong with the 340. It runs and sounds great, but I did plan on putting an efi and torqstorm supercharger on it to get a bit more efficiency and power in the future without breaking the bank.
Then I started comparing cost of just getting a g3 hemi to the money I'd put...
Hey everyone, I'm looking to get some advice. I have a 1972 with a mild 340. 340 has a 268 Lunati cam, x heads, and summit headers. Runs great. A guy near me is offering a 2006 5.7 Hemi and trans for 1200.
This is a complete power train motor, trans, torc converter, PCM/ECM and wiring harness...
There's a user on here named @Invincibleextremes also on Facebook and Instagram. He makes a kit for mustang brembo brakes for our cars. I feel like he's made a bracket for the srt brembos too or can make them. The mustang bracket only goes for 300.
Ok I appreciate it. I had read that someone had not took the tension off the torsion bar with the adjuster and the car moved a bit due to the tension. Just wanted to confirm. Thanks.
Hey everyone, I'm doing my first drum to disc conversion. Before I remove the final bolt in the photo of the backing plate (bottom left), do I need to loosen the torsion bar adjuster first? I apologise for the rookie question.
Hey guys, I'm trying to get some help with a charging issue on my 72 Charger 340 with fbo electronic ignition coil and an electric choke installed by the previous owner.
The previous alternator went bad so I ordered a new one via autozone. It looks identical except for having a ground...
Thanks for the response guys.
On the starter relay there are 2 red wires with this set up. I thought the red wire with the fusible link went to the ammeter, is that wrong? I also thought there was only one red wire from the starter relay with the stock set up.
I have the shop manual at home...
