I got the year of the Dakota wrong! It's a '99, not a 2K model. It has the older driveshaft with U-joints at both ends, with 2 of them at the transfer case end, 4 bolts at each end. The offending U-joint is at the transfer case end of the shaft, but I'm going to replace all three U-joints.
Well, in the end, I managed to solve the issue without having to weld onto anything. That would have been a challenge, as I have neither a welder, nor a friend who has one. A bit of Internet sleuthing revealed a socket-type set that acts exactly like those "easy-out" things, but for bolts...
I'm hoping someone might be able to help me out here. This isn't a B-Body specific issue, but it IS Mopar related. I am trying to drop the front driveshaft on my 2000 Dakota 4X4 to change out the U-joint, but have run into a giant snag. I'm posting here because I suspect I'll get more help...
…”I'm curious how you're going to spin the fan...”
…”That may be, but the picture shows no pulley, no belt to run it.”
Boy, do I feel like a nitwit! I had a look at pictures online and realized that I did, indeed, need a pulley for the fan. I then dug through my box o’ parts, and sure...
First off, a GIANT THANK YOU!!! to everyone who replied. A little further investigation revealed the following:
That weird-*** thing in picture 1 is some sort of aftermarket temperature thingy. I pulled it out, as I want to use the gauge on my rally dash.
I located the proper (violet) wire...
I’m trying to figure out…
A.) Is this my water temperature sensor in the first picture? I believe that it is.
B.) Does it go in the open hole in the second picture? Most pictures I’ve found show the temp sensor in different places.
I have swapped engines from a non-Ho 383 to a built 440...
I’m not sure if this matters to anyone, but it’s close to, but not exactly, 1:43 scale. It’s fractionally smaller than my 1:43 ‘70 Road Runner, but significantly larger than a Hot Wheels 1:64 Superbird.
For those of you who might want to put this on a Lionel layout, it would be great slightly...
Well, I managed to get the thing installed.
First off, since I couldn't get at the top bellhousing bolts, I backed off the K-frame bolts, effectively lowering the engine / trans assembly to the point where my ratchet-thingy would fit. (I assume I have crappy, cheap box wrenches that try to...
I tried box-ended wrenches first. The ones I have just wont fit between the bolt head and the bolt cutout. Only a socket end seems to fit...but then there isn’t enough clearance for the ratchet part.
So, revisiting this thread...
I tried Dave's suggestion of chamfering the edge of the pivot, but that still wasn't enough. Looks like I'm stuck trying to back off the bellhousing bolts, but I'm completely stymied by the top bolts. I simply cannot get anything in there to back them off. Is...
So, I did a 4-speed conversion on my '70 Satellite / RR clone, but because I really don't know what I'm doing, when gathering all the bits and pieces, I neglected to note that there was no clutch fork pivot installed in the bellhousing.
I put everything together and installed the engine and...
